60's VW Camper Bus...my first ride. :) Fold down sofa bed in back. Fridge, Closet, Pull-up table, walk-through, Roll out windows, curtains. Seats six. Good for hauling rigs as well.

Always wanted one of those....

Hydrox cookies:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrox

Everyone thought they were an Oreo knockoff, but Hydrox debuted 4 years before Oreos. I remember them being a little smaller and tasting a little different than Oreos.

I liked Hydrox better than Oreos. They tasted better to me.

Candy cigarettes and cigars

Alas, these are still made but the word cigarette is not on the packaging.

My gal and I were talking about last night after watching an old show.

Kids playing out in the streets of a neighborhood.

Oh, they still play & hang out in the streets. And they don't move outta the way as you're driving behind them at the speed of their slow strut, despite the empty sidewalks 12 feet to either side of them. :scowl:

...At least that's my experience driving from my Mom's house in the old neighborhood. Sigh, as I'm typing this I'm feeling like the old man telling the kids to get off my lawn. It has finally happened to me. :bawl:

Haven't read all 48 pages, so I apologize for any redundancies.

Milk men (guys in trucks delivering to your door).
There is actually one dairy (Oberweis) that still delivers around here, but I don't know anyone who uses their service.

Full service gas, check your oil, wash your windshield. I've been to Oregon and New Jersey where an attendant pumps your gas as required by law. But you don't get this kind of service anymore.

Line drying laundry outdoors. Some communities even ban it.

I use Oberweis for milk and other stuff.
We still buy milk at the store but their chocolate milk and ice cream is phenomenal, slightly expensive though.

Still see some people in the country who line dry. But very rare.

2XL The talking Robot, played 8 track tapes and played games, read stories, etc.
Thing even seemed to have a real personality at times.

Very ahead of its time when it was first out. At least as a kid we all thought so.

You younger guys may remember the later Cassette tape model by Tiger.
Yeah your Robot was not nearly as cool. Sorry.

Smoking lounges in public libraries (yes, really!)

Oh yeah, and micro-fiches and micro-films. I used to go to the gigantic public library and spend hours in the basement looking at old newspapers on film. They had something like 200 different banners going back to colonial times. History has repeated itself more times than you may think. I miss doing that.

You shouldn't feel bad at all. When we played in the street and a car was coming, we'd yell "CAR!" (no Far Side jokes please!:D) and break to the sidewalk. The only time we got on anyone's lawn was to retrieve an errant ball or frisbee. Nowadays, kids (not all, but too many) think they can run all over, and even ride their bikes, on your lawn, and they think they own the street. Their parents obviously haven't taught them to keep their hands off vehicles and mailboxes, either. Parents back in the day got their kids TOLD about messing with other folks' property. I'm not talking about accidental stuff; I mean blatant disrespect. I like seeing kids play in the street as opposed to being inside all day. I'd just like to see some common, or at least what used to be common, respect.

Old man rant over.
