the Z7 (even the Z3) With the Anderton and Giana video can do the tone i am looking for so i am just more hyped about getting my Z7.

One thing to consider is the newer 3 band EQ Sterling/MM bass have a boost no matter what you do at 4kHz. Older stingray doesn't have that and they sound differently than the newer model.

Personally, i find that the Z3 in this demo sound more like the Stingray sound i like than the Ray 35 H
The video is much too short to judge the sound I think. No idea how he has set the EQ on both basses either.
Well if we use just that video, you might be right, altought we can clearly hear that one bass is really brighter than the other.
The things is from what i saw and watched, it look there are 3 preamp for stingray (Excluding the Darkglass one that is in another category).
Classic 2 Band
Newer 3 band that have the peak at 4K no matter what you do with the EQ. Let's call it the Modern one and it's in all 3 Band Stingray and Rays
Even newer 3 band EQ in the Stingray special that aim to be a replicate the vintage or classic 2 band vintage tone. Let's call it the Special one
From what i have heard, the tone that i like is either the classic and the special. I am way less attracted to the modern 3 band one. Not that i thing it sound bad, it just sound thiner than the classic stingray sound that i want.
The Z3/Z7 preamp seems to aim to be closer to the Special EQ giving it a tone closer to the traditional Stingray and less like the modern 3 Band preamp. I have watched enough video to be able to hear it.
In the end this is all very subtle and tweakable. People wanting to get closer to the Modern 3-Band EQ tone will be able to get it with mods relatively easily. Anyway, the bulk of the stingray tone come from the humbucker location. There are passive stingray that still sound pretty much like a stingray so in the end, the subtle nuance are for people that just want more.
Your ears hear exactly what my ears do.
The Sires come closer to he pre Special 3 band StingRay and USA Sterling sound. They lack the warmth and deep punch that I hear in the 2bands and Specials .
The Sire preamp has its own sound .
Thats neither a good or a bad thing. It’s simply a matter of preference .
Sweetwater just charged my credit card and the order status changed to "Ready to ship" so hopefully I'll have a Z7 in my hands in time for the weekend!

Brief clip but the Sire sounds better to me. The Ray35 is thin. The Sire sounds more like I want a ray to sound.
Still waiting to see these start appearing on Sweetwater. I so appreciate how they show pics of the actual bass with the weight posted. I'm between getting one of the Z7 4-strings and an Ibanez SRF700 fretless for a third bass - two tones I can't get from my other two basses.
The 5er Z3s they currently have aren't too bad either. One is close to 11 pounds, but the others are around 9.
I just snagged a white Z3 fiver at 9lb7oz from Sweetwater. Should be here next Monday. Hope so as I'm out of town for 2 weeks after Monday!

I’ve been dying to see a review. It looks like the easy way to add a string to my Godin A4 fretless.
I’ve seen roasted before… but never charred!
I’ve got a V5 Fretless 5 and the neck is nowhere near that dark… spoiler alert… you’re gonna love the way it feels…
It look like it's one of the thing with roasted maple neck. You never know how the roast is going to look like.
In my opinion with the body you have, that roast look sick!!
