can't do it:
rehearsals = both bands: rehearsals = work (with a plan: usually in advance). folks bring whatever they 'need', personally (F&B/whatever)...they make sure it doesn't interfere with the work
but:
social = both bands (and other groups of musicians), fun, lots of food and beverage (pitch-in or go-out/meet), catch up on the personals, a separate event (infrequent, but always a pleasure!).
i enjoy both the work and the personal/social aspect of being a bandmate. but everyone i play with expects to work at rehearsals. we just come from 'that school'. we're glad when some rehearsals are over --- we're spent --- sometimes the experience/music can be intense!
every band/group/project has its own 'culture'. whatever that culture is: if it works = it works!

Rehearsals are generally short and focused. No food, no bevvies, no smoke breaks (no smokers
). Usually water or nothing. Sounds boring as I write it, but we still have a blast every time.

The only thing I need at rehearsal is a tall glass or bottle of water., or a beer or two. I'm there to play, not eat.

You're providing the facilities and you're expected to put on a spread as well? Seems wrong. IMHO, rehearsals are for rehearsing, not eating. I can't play and dip quinoa chips at the same time, so any break for food is time not rehearsing.
If people want food they should bring their ownm or order a pizza (or whatever). But how long are your rehearsals that people will starve to death if the banquet table isn't laid out?

All of us eat beforehand. Sometimes that means showing up early and eating something you've ordered.

If its a weeknight rehearsal I've already put in a full day at work, and have already eaten by the time i got there. Im not going to want to waste any time on food as enough time is already wasted by some of these people.
Sometimes they will show up with wings or something, and a good 45 minutes is wasted while they consume them. Its frankly irritating as all heck..ESPECIALLY given the fact that the drummer and myself are really the only ones with real day jobs. We aren't going to waste any time.
Maybe if it was a Sunday or Saturday afternoon...
my band practices in the music store that my singer runs, so usually no food. Once we had a pizza..The singer always has bottled water for anyone that wants it..I always bring Pepsi, its my thing. One time one of the guitar players brought a sixer of Labatt blue but I drank Pepsi..
To see all that liquor there some of probably very good I'm guessing however, I did notice sadly, there was NO Jameson Irish Whiskey..what kind of sorcery is that? that grouping of liquor without Jamo there is like a bass guitar with only 3 strings. Fire the person in charge of procuring the spirits immediately with extreme prejudice !!

I bring a coffee to sip on while the rest of the band bickers about stuff. If we're in the studio I bring a dozen donuts
I rehearse at pro rehearsal studios with a strict no food policy and restricted time, so no.
We have, on occasion, ordered pizza before rehearsal. This has only occurred when band mates show up early (5-5:30 pm). Of course, rehearsal goes from 6:30-10. I don't see anything wrong with it occasionally.
Oh yeah. We get the huge bags at Sam's and go through a bag a week at my house. My girls like eating them with a sandwich and don't even need dip.
Man, I've been in some deep valleys in my life. But I have to admit, I'm on a mountaintop with the sun shining on my face right now.
The only downside of our rehearsals is that by the time everyone leaves and I do a little cleanup in the jam room, it's well after midnight. And my alarm clock goes of at 5:20 a.m. for work.
But once every 4-6 weeks won't kill me.
i host the rehearsals, most of the guys come straight from work and we have about 3 hours, so, I always provide food. as people arrive they make themselves a plate, we have a little social time, discuss band business while having dinner, then go about getting to work for the remaining 2-2.5 hours. works out perfectly. I usually provide something like tacos, chili, pizza and adult beverages.
Oh it's not "expected". I do it because I want to.
And we add 10+ songs per rehearsal, so we get a LOT done. And we do some intricate vocal songs, not your standard Brown Eyed Girl stuff.
But we also love each other like cousins. So we squeeze I'm some hangout during our time together.
Maybe in a 4+ hour rehearsal we're munching and running our mouths a half hour spread out over the night.
We have managed to find that rare balance of professionalism AND a good hang. I'm enjoying it while it lasts because I'm in rare air and I know it.
