This applies to a lot of genres, and I think it's one of the reasons metal so often is frowned upon; simple jealousy of the fact that metal is a living, breathing entity, while so many other genres stopped evolving five to ten years after they were concieved.
I don't even care to think about how many times I've heard that stupid double bass, China, snare breakdown in songs. There is very little variety as far as my experience goes.
