I don't even care to think about how many times I've heard that stupid double bass, China, snare breakdown in songs. There is very little variety as far as my experience goes.

Since I have no idea what you listen to, I was speaking in general terms.

And these "ideals", I have no idea what they are. I like what I like, and could not care less what other people's tastes are. To each their own.

Considering your age, I'm pretty sure the "modern metal" your friends are listening to is not representative of the genre as a whole.

Keep an open mind, your still young, and there's lots of quality metal out there for you to discover!

Let me give you a piece of advice: Don't take the imagery of black metal so seriously, because 99% of those of us who play it sure don't, atleast not here in Europe where the genre originated!

Let me put it this way: If music genres were movies, black metal would be Evil Dead, the whole trilogy even.

The phrase "true norwegian black metal" was coined by Darkthrone. Try doing a youtube search on "Fenriz", Darkthrone's drummer, and see if he comes across as serious/dark/evil/true/whatever. You might be surprised!
