Thunderbird Club

I have an old Marantz, 2385, the thing blows the doors open. Not mine but in the same shape, 240 WRMS/channel continous into 4 ohms. I use two pairs of large Advents with it, Grand Funk IS in the house when I play them. :bassist:

Also a top of the heap choice for me.
They were some of the best imho.
And depending on the model...... Tons of power.

may very well be, if you have a voltmeter could you measure DC at the output? i live locally if you want it looked at, very familiar with those. PM if you’d like.
Not sure if this is what you meant, but here are a couple pictures. I tested the Sunn head with the Ampeg 210 cabinet and it has hum too. So, the source is the amp but what I don't know is if it is a lack of filtering on a dirty power line or an issue with the amp.

very slowly turn this guy with a speaker connected and it should go away….assuming of course it’s not some environmental issue at your place….

I'm a glorified plumber (Chemical Engineer). Speak slowly and in English :rollno:

Apologies to plumbers. At least they can fix a leak.

Hey @bobyoung53 and @Chucky Stiletti, you think that fat Marantz would power these?

Not sure if those are the same model but they used to be popular as PA speakers during the early 70's. I think they made them for both home use and theatre use. They're actually pretty efficient and are loud without a lot of power, the Marantz would probably be too much, a nice McIntosh tube amp would sound great with those. They made an Altec tube amp for those too for theatres.

I know those particular ones quite well.
One band i was in had their own PA, some of which consisted of those very A7's.

enough boring techie stuff…..yawn…:bawl:
RS66 on the Greco into an Ashdown rig at the surfer bar…:hyper:

Some great left and right hand work there Chuck!
I’d be hard pressed to hit all those notes on a good day. As my arthritis gets worse those good days are getting farther and farther behind me. Nice playing, keep posting!

Going to try a Furman power conditioner and see if it makes a difference on the hum. Not very expensive, highly rated, and free returns.
It’s not a bad idea to have at least one, even if it doesn’t fix this specific issue.
My LED stage lights create a lot of noise, which gets into the PA if that stuff is plugged into the same circuit. It’s nasty, especially if I dim the lights. I use these on the PA gear and that has solved the problem.

I presume they are TB plus. When I did the review a spec sheet had not been distributed to dealers so I avoided such details. I presume construction is mahogany but again if I wasn't completely sure I avoided it because I didn't want to post conflicting information.
Web site calls them "Rhythm T-Bird" and "Lead T-Bird". Good old Gibson marketing terminology...
