How old is that Groove Tubes preamp? I used to buy their matched pairs of 6550's for my SVT's.

hard to believe story (I know) but when playing in Europe, Queen played the local municipal soccer stadium and we got hired to play the after party which only consisted of May, Deacon, Taylor and guests since Freddy had the adjacent events hall for HIS after party where the waiters were walking around in thongs and bow ties….no joke….

Fully clothed odd story from the band I played the longest with in the early 80s. We had been through a member changes and finally got things settled and had been working on material and getting songs down and we were wanting any place to play. The drummer showed up to practice excited that he got us booked for our first gig together. He had hinted about it earlier so we were getting pumped about what he might be going and were wanted out practice to be leading to something. So, he shows up and said we got that job. We were all excited now and began asking about date and place, etc. Then we asked who we were going to be playing for. He said it was a dance for the deaf. Silence. The guitar player and I looked at each other thinking we heard misheard something and said "What?" (I have a deaf cousin I was close to him at the time, and a band at a dance was never talked about.) Then we were thinking he was kidding us. He said, "No, it's a real thing." We started saying, "You know they can't hear don't you? It's stupid to have a band. How are they going to dance to something they can't hear?" He then told us they rent a gym with a wood floor and they feel the vibrations. We still weren't sure and kept quizzing him, but it was a real offer for us to play at a dance for the deaf. It ended up falling through for some reason I no longer remember, but that was our funny story about our first potential paying gig. And we could have played as loud as we wanted.....

I've heard of that before but don't remember where.

I played with a drummer who at one time had had a wedding-y type of band and had a steady gig at one of the hotels in Boston, Mick Jagger was in town for something or other and he walked up to the door of the room and listened for a few seconds, insulted the band to the doorman and took off. I forgot what he said but it was funny. I guess this would have been better if I could have remembered what he said, but the Brits are about the best insulters I've ever heard.
