Thunderbird Club

Basically, what the new build comes down to is a “Thunderbird” replacement for the Fender bass I play the most. If all goes as planned it will be a Fender bass by every definition with the exception of the Tbird body shape. Fender brand neck, Fender branded Tuners, Fender branded pups and locations, Fender pots and knobs, Fender brand bridge, even a fender spec finish.

Undecided is Reverse or Non Reverse body, pickguard design, and the stock Fender finish that will look best with a maple/maple neck.
finishes being considered right now…
If the wood grain is interesting maybe one of these

If a solid color, maybe one of these

Anybody out there have a Fender color they think would look good with a maple/maple neck?
Do we get to vote?

I’ll start…. Sparkling Burgundy (CAR) on a NR shape.

I haven’t gone the display case route yet although it would probably cut down on the dusting of instruments I have to do in the bass room. We live in an agricultural area, farm land all around us, so constant dust and dirt being churned up. Right now it’s floor stands for the frequently used basses, wall hangings for the less frequently used basses and cases in closets for the seldom used basses. I don’t think any of my Tbirds go more than a few days without being played. The Fenders and FSOs on the other hand can go months without being strapped on.
Strapon Fenders belong in another thread.

Olympic White.

By all means, I’m looking for suggestions on the body and finish.
Sparkling Burgundy on a NR body would look way cool and scratch a couple of itches for me.

Olympic White.
Oly White is always a classic, and if the grain is something special I could always go with a pale white Mary Kay translucent finish.

It's a wet Thursday here....... Miles got some reasonable weather for his visit.

I'm an indoors house plant today - Frank's new Firebird showed up yesterday so we have a nice pic of the family.

I love the Tobacco burst Fender (upper right). Then again, how can you go wrong with something like CAR? Has there ever been a bad one?

Great looking Firebird! Those other instrument thingys aren't bad either.

How does Frank like the Firebird?

Sparkling Burgundy doesn't look that good in person.

Who am I kidding? It looks freaking amazing...as good as any finish, and better than most.

You know I'm going to vote for the red - but isn't something like Torino or Fiesta red more Fender-y than CAR?
