Just wanted to vent? a bit, about some of the real turkeys I have to put up with at work

There's a flock of about 100 that roam the 40 acres behind our property. Nothing like turkey all over the yard. I have an approach based on Pavlov but listing it will provoke the powers that be even though it involves no permanent damage.

I think we have a little less of these, but way more than I want. Had to "remove" one from the front steps a couple weeks ago. Trade you.

Yes, we got the rhyming slang straight from Cockney.

eg. there is an Australian singer / actor named Barry Crocker (he was Bazza Mackenzie in those movies). So now if someone is having a bad day making a lot of mistakes. We would say He's having a Barry!
Barry being short for Barry Crocker, Crocker rhymes with shocker.

Or… I may start replacing poopie with Edgar. After the old jockey Edgar Britt.

There is a current thread by Gary Garry Beers (INXS) that I have read some of.
In it he speaks highly of his Japanese copy, I think he said it is a Greco. Which would make sense as their Thunderbirds are well regarded here.

I don't know what brand mine is. It had a Ric truss rod cover on it when I got it.
I payed $240 for it, but it needed a lot of work:
Fret slots were filled with wood filler. I levelled the fingerboard and refretted.
The walnut skunk stripe was cracked. Repaired with epoxy/walnut dust.
The bridge pickup didn't work. I re-soldered the windings to the leads.
It was missing the treble surround and it had a tort pickup ring. I made an aluminum surround and put the PU cover on it.
The neck was stripped, but they had stopped at the peghead and the transition looked bad. I stripped the back of the peghead, cleaned it all up, and finished with Tung oil.

I had been given a bunch of parts when my friend passed a few years ago, which included a set of Ric branded tuners, a pickup cover, some Ric bridge parts and Ric truss rod covers including one ElDegasRocker TRC. I put that one on it.

It could be an ElDegas, but could be an Ibanez, or a Mann. Those were the common names sold in Canada. They were all made in the same factory.
Mine is neck through, but there are also bolt on versions. I'm not sure about Greco Ric copies. Some of those are probably nice, given they made good Tbirds.

I've had two times now where a Ric owner came up to me after a gig and said he liked it the sound….and then was surprised it was a copy.

Are they protected? Or are you allowed to ah, cull, them a little when coming up to Thanksgiving?

Looks about right. We have gopher and California King snakes too. Thrown in fox, coyote, deer, raccoons, and a few loopy people and that makes for an interesting menagerie.

Well....while we are literally the end of the street, I'm thinking the neighbors would get a little up tight if I reduced the population by efficient means. Well some anyway.

We have 2.5 acres and are mostly surrounded by woods. as a result, we have skunk, snakes, deer, geese possum, coyote, turkey, hawks and owls. Snakes--did I mention sons of satan? One gets not much bigger than a big fishing worm. Seems like I'm forgetting something. Every so many months we find something else we didn't know about. People, we have those too. Some domesticated others not so much.

Actually, the 2 "Toms" are displaying toward each other in preparation for fighting over the hens.
Here in FL, hunters will spend $$$ on weapons, camping gear/RVs, etc. to go 'get' wild turkeys which, I'm told, are quite 'gamey' in taste.

Our last house sat on a lake in KY. So we had all the same critters you mentioned plus rabbit, Fox, muskrat, mink or weasel, alligator snapping turtles, box turtles, moles, chipmunks, squirrels, tree frogs, toads, king fisher birds, green grebes, geese, several kinds of ducks, and even an occasional turkey buzzard. Oddly enough we never had any turkey in our yard. I suspect you probably have a lot of the critters I mentioned as well.

Of the bunch, the geese were the most messy (thanks Canada) and the rabbits, moles and deer were the most destructive. I did end up devising a way to "control" the deer and keep them from eating all the flowers in the yard, and no it doesn't involve cooking venison. Let me know if your interested and I'll post a sketch of the device. With patience, perseverance and a shovel I wiped out the mole population. The rabbit situation improved once the fox moved in.
