Hey everyone! Just back from my trip and am not going to dig thru 30 pages to catch up. Did I miss anything while I was gone? I expect the usual planes, trains, and automobile discussions with some T-Bird action thrown in for good measure?

I did come home to a new-to-me lovely Bird. May I introduce the lovely Cataldo Bass #55.

I bet a lot of us here do. I found him through Guitar Player. That's also where I found Eric Johnson and a bunch of other monster guitar and bass players.

I love James Williamson's playing too. I actually found Iggy and The Stooges music much more interesting that the earlier Stooges especially the Raw Power album. I got both mixes, I like the Bowie mix better.

Ah, I must amend this by saying I was prodded into checking out these players because of Steve Howe name checking them in interviews.


Been a big YES fan since I was 7.

Yes (sic) to all of the above, except since I was ~13. Local radio late night guys would play some of their stuff well before Fragile came out.

I found Yes in spring 1991 when my fav record shop had had a stack of US imports (cut-outs) and "The Yes Album" was among those. I was intriqued since it had a gatefold sleeve as I had only seen the German reissue from the eighties with the single sleeve. Great photo of Chris inside with his 21 fret 4001MG.
I asked for headphones and when "Yours Is No Disgrace" got going I was hooked.
That summer I bought my 4001JG from a shop in Helsinki. And got a second UK press of "Fragile". My 2 fav Yes albums.

The very first album I ever bought for myself was Yes - Fragile (actually bought it at the same time as Pink Floyd DSOTM). To this day, every time I hear the song Roundabout it brings back so many memories. Great band, great players, great album, great times, great memories (same for DSOTM).

Steve McKay (Iggy's sax man - as seen in this vid performance) lived in Pacifica. Through my friend Thollem, I was fortunate to play two brief show's with him. He passed away shortly thereafter. There was a tribute show at Winters Tavern where Mike Watt and the Second-men played and Iggy called-in to deliver a message/eulogy about Steve during the performance. Steve's road-worn sax-case is part of Winters' collection.

Bonus track! Same stuff but played Entwistle -fingerstyle. Much harder that way if they weren't hard enough already.

Kara, I'm so, so sorry for your loss. We went though that earlier this year with a little dog and I feel so badly for you. It's a horrible feeling. Pets are family--often better than a good many family. I know you gave him(? sorry I don't recall) a good life that you shared together. Both of you were better off for connected along this journey. Feel free to vent as needed.

Two excellent songs. I've been known to put Riviera Paradise on repeat for hours. I never got to see him; I didn't even know who he was until just a year before he died about a year before I moved to Austin. About a decade later, I heard one of the local radio djs reminisce about how Stevie would play a gig like Antone's, and after most of the crowd left, come back out and sit on the edge of the stage with the lights down low and play Riviera Paradise. Then the dj played a live version of it. It was 2am and I was coming home after one of many loooong days in a hellish month. I had to get off the highway and just listen, it felt so intense.

Cool. It's such an interesting song. I can see listening to in over and over.

The first time SRV was here and largely unknown, a friend of mine got to drive him around. Barry (who is a guitarist), worked at the big rock radio station and got the job of driving him around that afternoon and after the concert. It was short notice and afterwards Barry said he didn't think to call me to see if I wanted to ride along. That would have been so cool.
