Thunderbird Club

Golf courses look like a great place to ride a 2-stroke dirt bike with big knobbies. Launching out of a sand trap and landing in full roost mode on the green would be the proper use of a golf course. Turf everywhere, especially in the air.
When I was a kid, we would ride our bikes to a park with a course. Too poor for dirt bikes. Get on one of the hills and take off down the hill and across a couple holes, yelling "Four" the whole way. So much bouncing we couldn't keep our feet on the pedals. Just hold on and yell. We got a kick out of the older guys (likely my age now) calling us names that had something to with maternal linage and waving their clubs in the air like cavemen.

For me, it would have to be a 1950s ES125 or ES175. Maybe an ES335 if there's one with a fistful of neck. I have a Loar copy of an ES125 and another that's the acoustic version like an L48. That's as close as I'm ever likely to get. I had an Ibanez ES335 clone for a while, and probably should never have let it go. I didn't like the way the pickups sounded. Swapping pickups is pretty easy relative to finding the right guitar.
Played in a couple bands and each had a 335. For me, they sound as good as anything around.

Ask The Queen @TBird1958 or @Chucky Stiletti. They should have the answer to that. PS: LowEndLobster ISN'T a good source for reviews, the guy's unapologeotically biased, plus he has no idea of what he talks about most of the time.

I definitely wouldn't agree with this - he is a very good player and has reviewed very many basses over many YouTube vids. One can choose to agree or disagree with his reviews - but he presents his reviews professionally with good audio quality and insightful criticism. I just have never read him as biased and I frankly feel he does know what he's talking about.

Just wanted to pick the collective brain here on one of the most active clubs on TB. Generally speaking....I can't for the life of me figure out why the newer Thunderbird NR has so many negative reviews. I understand it may not be everyone's cup 'o tea, but it seems to get a thumbs down more often than not by YouTube reviewers. For those of you that have 'em, does your experience line up with the disdain for this model? I definitely dig mine. Looks amazing, sounds thick, and has great clarity, IMO. Here's a pic of my NR with my '79 bicentennial bird:

I don't recall but a couple "OK" reviews. They are really nice. I'm glad I got mine. Nothing wrong with it all all, as long as you aren't wanting it to sound like a 60s NR or Reverse. Which may not have been the intent of Gibson anyway. I've had my '64 since about 1981 and it's the Thunderbird sound that's deeply imbedded in my head. I wish the new NRs sounded like the '64, but they don't, and neither to any modern Gibson Thunderbirds. That's my only "complaint" if I were to do a review. If a person expects/wants it to sound like a '60s, they will be a little perplexed. For those who don't have a 60s or that gold standard sound as a reference point, I'm at a loss as to what they would complain about. They are great instruments and can't imagine selling mine.

For sure - Chicago bluesman via Mississippi Delta Eddie Taylor - Deluxe (gold hardware/Bigsby) ES 335 - nothing like it.

I remember a golf convo here waaaaaaaaay back when.
Lets just say it was a personal playground of destruction.
I'd be banned from entering a course.

I remember convicted sex-offender Bill Cosby doing a comedy routine where he acted as a golf announcer/commentator for a football game, and a football commentator for a golf match. I'm sure it's on YouTube. Pretty funny really.

I've not watched a lot of his reviews, but he gives information and his opinion. Sometimes I agree or not if I have some first have experience. I take the useful and move on. I think at times when some hear something they don't agree with, that information is labeled biased. It is to some extent. In truth, we all have them to varying degrees, and if we don't think we do we're lacking in self-awareness. Getting opinions from all sides is a good thing, so even if we don't fully agree, we might learn something.

100% - he has his (fun) lobster schtick - and more power to him. If he was a wanker as a player or wasn't able to talk cohesively about his focus - he wouldn't be followed, simple as that.

Those knobs really look good on that bass, what are they?
