Thunderbird Club

@JIO a very Happy Birthday to you! Have a rockin good show tonight, and many more years of good health, and prosperity!

:) Thanks! That's the plan Stan! We go on at 2:00 (afternoon) - I wonder if the bar-tenders would make me a Bloody Mary...

Happy Birthday!

:) Thanks! HNY!

The weather outside is frightful. But I’m in the shed and it’s delightful. Let it snow. Let it snow. Let it snow!

I’ll be honest, I never heard the man’s name before I joined TalkBass. Joni yes (love a lot of her stuff), Jaco nope. I’ve tried to listen to a number of his recordings and just can’t get much beyond the first couple of minutes on any of them. Talent, yes. Trail blazer, yes. Something Picasso also was, but like Picasso’s work, it just isn’t my cup of tea and consequently I never developed an interest in delving into it. Maybe some day that’ll change, my musical tastes are constantly evolving.
Same here. Never heard of Jaco until TB as far as I recall. Heard of Weather Report, even have a couple CDs, and never cared for anything they did. Listening to Jaco, no denying his abilities, but couldn't stand the tone.

We have bass, drums, guitar, keys, vocalist, sax, and trumpet. We could bring in a trombone. It’s difficult to get 7 people together for regular rehearsals.
We have a gig lined up in about a month, so if anyone has a good suggestion for a name…
Names are really tough. Shameless Pillars of Society, which shortened to Shameless POS was a band name for about five or six years. We were talking about other things when that name happened. Like most bands seem to, at least when I am involved, it names itself. The bands I have played drums in never seemed to settle on a name. One had a different name for every show. As concept art, I suppose that works. As a way to build a reputation, not really.

Picked up the Ashdown 300H yesterday. Didn’t have a chance to fire it up until today. All I’m getting is a hum, no signal. Was offered a refund but wanted to see if the experts here have any suggestions on what might be wrong. If an easy and cheap fix, it’s worth keeping.

That sounds like what the Mark III Peavey I picked up a while back is doing. Just a solid hum, and nothing you do causes a change?

The Peavey has a burnt-out transistor that might be the problem with it, but I haven't swapped it with the new one yet.... I would suggest visually checking for any obvious component problems like that firstly
:)

Nope, just a hum. Playing with the knobs does nothing.

Some of you have me curious about a touch of breakup (not fuzz). I really like the sound of the EBS Valve Drive as it's very natural sounding. Found a used one for around $250. But I've got almost $100 at Sweetwater from selling a phaser I didn't need that I'd like to get rid of.
Among a few reasonably priced pedals, this on the overdrive setting doesn't seem too bad. I guess I'm thinking of warm and creamy not raspy or harsh in any way. In fact, I don't think I really want it very noticeable. There and filling in some spaces, but definitely not in your face.
Way Huge Pork and Pickle Smalls Bass Overdrive Pedal

That's an odd name.
