Thunderbird Club

Thanks G - I dig it! Good bass playing and tone too - right up my alley. It reminds me of "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave, which we do. We're also learning "Strange Game" from Slow Horses. We've been introducing just this kind of Noir material to augment our strictly Bond stuff. I'll send it to Cherie - I think she'll go for it.

LOVE Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds! Especially around Let Love In.

I don't want to buy and butcher a VP just to put a 7ender neck on it. However if someone has, or knows of, or sees one for sale, would you please let me know?!

Wow, I need to have coffee before I post. I meant a VP (or other Thunderbird) with a damaged or broken neck wanted.

My white one has cracks near the string nut, that may or may not extend past the finish into the wood.....a couple of people have decided against buying it for that reason.

But until I get a turnip I can squeeze a few drops of blood out of to pony up for membership, I can't advertise it for sale here - working on that :(

Still WiP, but some improvement has been made......

Sounds like you’re going down a similar path as I’m currently going down, but for different reasons. I think you’re after the VP sound with Fender neck ergos. I’m just tired of waiting for Epiphone to make an NR VP.

To that end, I successfully located an Embassy bass that was being dumped on the market at rock bottom pricing because of the incorrect bridge location. I think I paid just under $250 for it delivered. These use the exact same pickups and many other bits and pieces as the VP. It ended up being the pickup, spacer, trim ring, bridge, hard tail and strap lock donor to a $120 Rosser NR body and an $80 after market fender spec neck. When complete the new NR VP will have cost about what a new Standard VP costs, maybe less depending on the finisher I go with.

I think I still have a line on another complete Embassy fire sale with all the VP bits if you decide to go the same route. PM me if interested.
Rubbing hands in anticipation!

You have a white VP (or better still, T-Bird) you are considering selling? I could find myself passing through the Sac area sometime soon…

except for the weird post-Bicentennial tiny tuners. They just have never looked right to me. YMMV

It is visually incongruent with its 'vintage vibe' attempt. Gotoh makes Reso-lites that are at least close to looking like the original clovers. Really high quality tuners.

I wonder how much it would cost to press some vinyl copies? And does it need to be mastered differently?

Probably would need different mastering via compression and analog/digital differences. I've yet to price it all out. Rehearsing 4 new songs to record soon is all I'm thinking about right now.

Do the cracks look like this? If so, it appears at least on mine that it is the top laminate of the headstock separating. when I bought the body, it was advertised as having the crack in it already. When I strung it up it got slightly worse. But looking at it, it’s just the top layer. I drop filled the crack area with some clear gorilla glue and it hasn’t lifted further.

Mine's not that bad - prior to my acquisition, it got bumped on the top of the headstock.....

...... which, I've always assumed was what caused these.....

.....but I've had it for about two & a half years, with no increase in the damage & no apparent ill effects on the functionality

On a related note: does anybody know what that top layer they use on the headstock is? (I should probably ask in luthiers corner:))

That was nothing. One year we had over 9’ and I had to throw the snow over my head to clear the stairs. Only one second story window wasn’t covered. Had to shovel the roof as interior doors were starting to stick. News showed homes exploding from the load. Definitely a rare storm.
Yikes!

A friend & their partner moved from Texas to somewhere in NY last year. One day this winter they opened their door to a solid wall of snow, top to bottom of door frame. Not something they were prepared for.
Yikes!
