The latest forecast for our mountain place:
“Between 2 and 5 feet of snow is expected, a figure that could even reach 7 feet above 4,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

Six to 12 inches is expected between 2,500 and 4,000 feet, and 1 to 6 inches is expected between 1,500 and 2,500 feet, the weather service said.

The storm is also bringing rain to the Southern California coasts and valleys, and strong winds are in the forecast for the mountains, foothills, coasts and valleys.”

Our place is at 6,000 feet. I’m glad I’m off the mountain.
Someone had to say it

New pedal day:

90's Ibanez Smash Box from their Tone-Lok or 7 series. Plenty of distortion on tap and a noise gate! Plus it has low end so it works with the bass. I didn't even try it with the guitar yet.
Not farty but smooth, just as I like it. 40 euros and these go cheaper too as it isn't considered a classic in a guitar world as far as I know. Let's wait until John Mayer gets one and the prices go up (let's not actually).

I would have done my customary sound clip but the bloody sound card's bloody USB jack went bust so maybe tomorrow.

New pedal day is always a good day, look forward to the clips.

Very brief and initial impressions.
LOUD! I've seen people whine about 300w of class D is questionable for having enough volume. They must be playing through one 3" driver at 40Ohms (can that even be a thing?). Running it through the above 212 4Ohm cab, this sucker is loud. If that won't cut it for most gigs something is wrong with that band. Not to mention it's got what is said to be a nice DI.

It sounds really good at home. Has the crispness of SS amps, but can easily be toned down. That cab seems a good match. Possibly because Ashdown uses Eminence speakers (made in Ky!). And I read (some of?) their cabs are made just across the Ohio river around Cinci. I'm definitely going to take it to church and use it with with my 410 for kicks.

Compressor seems pretty nice and useful--and I've always liked the Sub-Harmonic generator as a cool feature once in a while. Nice, light and easy to get a good sound. More time with it well shed more light, but so far I'm happy.

It was a bit of a nutty day yesterday.

I emailed BaCH to ask if the bronze nut shown on the website will work on their Thunderbird. We’ll see if they respond. They don’t list the measurements on the website.

I measured the nut on mine. It is essentially 38 mm long, 5 mm wide and 8 mm high. Tusq has a black precut nut that is very close: Black TUSQ XL Bass 4 String Nut L37.94mm (PT-1238-00). It should work with at most some minor sanding. So I ordered one.

This is what I’m replacing:

New Nut Day!

For the BaCH. Ordered on the 14th, arrived today via Canada Post with a handoff to USPS. Nine days is fine by me.

The new Tusq is on the top, the stock hunk of plastic is on the bottom. It dropped right in. I’ll put the 45-105 stainless Marcus Miller Suprtbrights on it this weekend and see if it all works out. It plays fine with the thick Slinkys I put on it the weekend before last.

It may be my imagination, but the bird sounds more resonant with the Tusq nut.

I never did get a response to my email to BaCH re the bronze nut they show on their website.

As long as I had 'stuff" (liquor, basses, womens clothes, model trains, liquor, food) I'd be more than happy to be snowed in for a week to 10 days.........

Still Thunderbird Thursday on the Best Coast!
