Thunderbird Club

I had a 106 Cab, which had 2 x 15s...
I had forgotten that one. There were several others. None of the designations made any sense. Some had variants with the same designation, just to make it even clearer. I knew all kinds of ACC trivia some time ago, but it is fading away now. Limited storage space can be mental as well as physical.

So I'm now starting to get interested as I'm wanting another project. I would refinish it after doing some work on it to make it more ergonomic. I'd also replace the bridge & fill the post holes. Are the stock pu's good sounding? I recall Chucky's being a bit heavy. Would probably do some sculpting on the neck also. Give me some plus's & minus's on these basses to get a handle on what I'd be working with.

I sent the seller a question regarding the neck. As long as the neck is straight/no issues - I think I'll pop for it. When I do my redefinitions on 'vintage' basses/guitars, the neck has to be good or it's just not worth dealing with. Especially a set-neck.

The only pickup I’ve played that I liked as much(slightly better) was the Queen’s 64(?) II. The Greco neck is slightly wider and thiccer (sic). I prefer the 1.5” Gibson Epi bird necks, but I get along ok with the Greco neck. Good tuners and best use of a Three point bridge around.

The Greco pickups are beastly. I still prefer my CP for pure, smooth low end. I don’t really need my VP any more.

Who knows. A 360 cabinet is a powered folded horn cabinet with an 18. A 301 is basically the same only unpowered. A 406 has a couple front firing 15s. A 408 has two front firing 15s and two 15s firing at each other in a slot between the front firing drivers. An 811 is a PA speaker with four front firing 15s. An 812 cabinet is a midrange horn with six piezo drivers if I remember right.

Confused? The head and power amp designations don't make any more sense.
I see what you're saying. There's a pattern there.

A non-pattern is still a pattern, correct? :help:

Finally got round to taking some pics of my Tbird. Nothing fancy, just a 2011 but I changed out the pickups to Thunderbuckers, chrome Hipshot bridge and ultralite mini cloverleaf tuners, and Montreaux Gold Reflector knobs. Haven't put the pickup cover on it yet, but I will.

Looks pretty dang sexy from here!

Hide the children! Don't let them hear this.

Saturday night entertainment material (get some popcorn ready) - I saw this cheezy sci-fi movie (when new) in 1962 as a nine yr old in an Omaha Nebraska movie theater called the "Chief Theater" - with a big (stylized) buffalo nickel "chief" profile neon marquee. (since torn down) When you entered - they gave us a (free!) packet of "Triffid seeds" (sunflower seeds) to scare us, presumedly as part of the marketing.

It's actually a very provocative story-line (other than plants that kill and move around) because of the "meteor shower" that no-one could look away from, blinding the worlds population with the exception of those who for whatever reason didn't witness it. "gee - look - pretty lights in the sky". It crippled me as a kid ;) but I survived...

The book gave me the Willies! I didn’t see the movie until I was an adult. Definitely low budget cheese, but well done within that range.

Pretty cool! Looks like a lot of fun.

Our place in the mountains reportedly has five feet around it. ScCal Edison texts us every time the power goes out and when they get it back up. Four times now since midnight. The County set up a warming center in the clubhouse, but people higher up like we are (6000 feet) can’t get out of their driveways without hours of shoveling snow. And the roads are terrible, even with chains. I’m glad I had the good sense to stay home in the flatlands the last several days.

Neighbors are posting pics:

At least it will help the water situation.

IIRC it's Champagne Gold, but don't quote me on it, this one's a bit understated with it's factory wheels etc., but the metal work is fantastic. The fit of the fenders, hood etc. is way better than factory, this car took a Concourse Gold in the GTO Nationals.

We used to make such beautiful cars.

It is a 389 Tri power, come up for a visit and we'll go see it.

i saw a similarly colored late 60s Olds 442 today while riding my bike. Not as nice, of course, but well above average.

So, did they train Gibson in numbering or follow their lead?

Aside from monster flesh-eating plants - the storyline of aliens creating a celestial 'light-show' that "people of earth" can't look away from that blinds them is a very effective way to immobilize a population if it were possible. To me the plants were silly, but the blinding of most of the planet by an alien force was very provocative sci-fi.

So, new axe. Photo right out of the box, an Yamaha BB300.
Maybe 1984 or 1994.

I already cleaned the fretboard, body; also did some paint polishing, trying to remove some scratches, and polishing the string retainer.

Yamaha makes quality instruments, and motorcycles too! 2023 is the 25th anniversary of the YZF-RI. Can you say, consistently awesome for 25 years?

Yes, any pattern can be a considered a 'pattern'. My favorite - 'chaos' is a pattern of sorts. (anti-pattern?) In jam sessions, I often stumble across such 'patterns' on bass. You know when you've created a good anti-pattern bass-line when everyone is looking at you with puzzled looks on their faces. I've found the 'chaos theory' a much more creative outlet than 'music theory'. But that's just me...

Yah, it's late (or early) - needing to get 're-tired' after a night of performing with The Sean Conneries in SF at the Hotel Utah. We went on second at about 8:15 and rocked the house. The secret to get people to come hear your band on a Sunday night is to have band members in their '20s and '30s (like our 25yr old drummer Zach and 35yr old expecting mother Kirstin on keys/vox) :) Out of 3 bands, we had the biggest and most enthusiastic audience! Because of that - it was a blast... so much fun! Everyone in the audience said levels were good - my rig/bass sounded great and my band was 'up' and delivered! Pics/vids will follow... but very soon I need to crash.

I picked up one locally last year..It was inexpensive but a very worthwhile instrument.
It’s my first Yamaha.
