Funny the American versions of things. I guess from your perspective it’s funny the Australian versions.

We never say St Patty. Patty is a girls name, short for Patricia. We would say St Patrick OR St Paddy’s Day - short for the Irish Padraig (which gets Anglicised to Patrick). The corned beef and cabbage thing is known here and done but not in a big way. More likely to get an Irish Stew, or a Beef & Guinness Pie (or casserole at times) served on a bed of mashed potatoes and often gravy, sometimes lamb shank/s served in a bed of mashed potato and with a pool of gravy.

In Australia, St Patrick’s Day is regarded by the Catholic Church here, as a Solemnity which is higher than a normal Feast Day. Therefore, if it falls on a Friday in Lent (as it did this year) the ‘no meat on a Friday in Lent’ rule is overridden by the Solemnity and we are free to eat meat if we want cause it is a day to celebrate. Not sure if anyone is aware of all those rules except me :D but I find it interesting. I hope someone else does lol. BTW that is not the case in the US or Canada afaik. I think it may only be in Ireland and Australia.
AFA St. Patty vs Paddy, my guess is that most people 'celebrating', i.e. drinking green Buds, neither know nor care about the difference. I see signs spelled both ways-sometimes next to each other.o_O
(Patty is short for Patricia here too)
The corned beef and cabbage is the traditional Americanised version. Lamb/mutton ain't big here.

I don’t know. It was supposed to rain here at the mountain place. But when I took the dogs out at 5:00 AM it was snowing. It seems like Spring will never come. It is supposed to snow Tuesday and Wednesday then be nice by next weekend. But there is supposed to be another storm after that.

Just got in a little while ago from the second St. Patty's day gig in 2 days. I'm ready to take a short break from corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes, at least for a coupla days. Both gigs over by 2130. Love playing for old(as me)pharts-home by 2200. :hyper: Now I can drink.
At my Friday night pub gig we played until midnight. I had my stuff in the car PDQ, but by the time everything else was loaded out it was after 0100. Last night was a church thing for a crowd of oldies, so done and home by 2230.
