The PA speakers crack me up. They look like old Kustom stacked 410 speakers. I got one of those for $10 some time ago. It turned out to be 210 and 212 speakers. The original speakers were blown and sounded awful. I figured putting bass drivers in the cabinet would turn it into an adequate small footprint bass cabinet, but it turns out to be a really good PA speaker. You don't see cabinets like that much.

Same here. It has to be gold or bright blue or some other sparkly color. Blue sparkle would more or less match my drum kit. But, I don't have anywhere to put something like that, and my wife has made it very clear that my musical toys stay in the music room. No leaking out into the rest of the house. She's saving me from my own fool self by doing that.

What are your thoughts on the single string bridge units vs a typical (ha ha, if there is such a thing) fender bent plate?

They both do the job. I've used the singles on a number of my custom basses and look at it as a design/style choice mostly. There's a few different versions out there including these ones which were used on Ibanez basses and come in chrome, black & gold.

When I was 13 - I had a Kustom catalogue and wanted the white sparkle version. I've played through one once and it was very bassy/boomy. 2 15's I recall.

Yah, I posted that pic on the 'pics of you playing your bass' thread and someone asked if it was 'vintage'. More like old and abused (no brand label) but they sound pretty darn good. Them and the Peavey head are the house PA used for outdoors. Those vertical columns were what everyone used back in the day.

This picture was almost 40 years ago. Time moves quickly these days. No more dark hair..That’s for sure.

That bodyshape would also look fab on an 8-string bass. Jazz or P look wrong but that or maybe the Bass VI style could work.

I hardly play my three Fenders. But I would love to have that blue/green Performer.

Our high school owned a Kustom PA with the 2 4x10s. Or it could have been 2 6x8s? I don’t recall the amp rating. We only used it for vocs.

We were “good kids,” so the vice principal in charge of it let us use it when we played at the school dances. He would let us “borrow” it when he “wasn’t looking” for other gigs (other schools, church dances, etc.). If we couldn’t use that, we would have to drive down to Santa Barbara and rent a Traynor PA. Which was really good. I think it was $15.00 or $20.00 for 48 hours IIRC.

I had the Kasino 200 head and 2x15 cab. Same as a Kustom, sans the tuck and roll. Circa ‘73 or ‘74. @GonePlaid still has the combo version, although I think his is an earlier vintage. Loudest amp I’d ever heard at the time (other than ACCs which were way out of my price range). Yep, it was hard to tame in some venues (today a simple HPF would make it a non-issue). High School gyms were the worst. Still, I loved it. It was my sound back in the day.

If all else fails, Hollister isn’t all that far from you. If you do that, I will try to go up and have the wizard dial in the bias on the SVT. The SVT works fine, but I’m not seeing consistent green on the bias lights as described in the manual. I wish I hadn’t read the manual. My OCD is killing my sanity. Anyway, it would be good to see you again and catch up.

Very cool. You have room where the SVT and Berg cab were. Your house and bass room are beautiful George. Maybe we can convince you to stay in SoCal a little longer?

Blue Sparkle! Now you’re talking.

Just add a room Will. Make it two rooms. One for her and one for you. Surely you “know people” who would do it at cost for you. And you can design the addition so you won’t even have to hire an architect. And you’re getting up there in years, so less yard to manage.

When I first tried it with the bridge pickup installed (which the bass builder himself grudginly wound and routed) its sound with both pickups on reminded me of a T-Bird.
