It is my first Tbird. I really like the neck so far. Very comfortable. And despite the rumors, no neck dive. LaBella DTF flats.

It chose you wisely. Since 1963, Gibson Reverse Thunderbirds have had the fastest, most comfortable necks of any bass ever made.

Don’t believe the conventional Talk Bass nonsense. Most who comment negatively have no, or minimal, experience playing them. It isn’t a PBass. It is not a JBass. Thunderbirds have their own unique sound. If needed, you can get close to both P and J sounds depending on the amp and settings. Or effects. I find that mine are very versatile.

2012 Thunderbird Studio.

Roger, ya done good! It’s not a studio, it’s a relatively rare color full fledged neck through Gibson Thunderbird IV with wonderful TB+ pickups. These typically have higher asking prices than the Studio birds (which are also great basses). We don’t see a lot of that dark cherry color here in the club. I love it! And I’m sure you’ll find that it’s a very flexible bass capable of fitting into just about any genre. Welcome to the club!

I can't recall anyone ever commenting on what bass I'm playing at our shows regardless of what I'm playing. Someone might tell me they liked our band, or less often liked my playing, but that's about it. Fine with me.

Only bass that Cherie and Kirstin both noticed (on separate occasions) was my Glam P/J. It is sparkly.

Hi, Club.
I’m thinking of making a NR Non Reverse. Has anyone used a Rosser NR body?

I’ve seen one or two “regular” thunderbird bodies on here but no NR’s.

I think it will be NR body, single DarkStar, Badass bridge, and I think I’ll get a neck with a paddle to make more of an EB-O style headstock. Unless someone makes a fender pocket bolt on neck with that headstock?

Not sure of finish, right now Danish oil, but that could change.

My friend/tech is building a NR similar to what you are describing (NR body/EB-0 2+2 headstock, single pickup). He is using a mahogany Rosser body for this build. He has bought 6 or so bodies from Rosser and has no complaints, and he is VERY picky.

That’s probably where I’m headed. Good rep, available in chrome, and from all accounts, a good guy to buy from. Fair price.

What do folks suggest for a BaCH II? Just curious. A 7.9k neck pickup or the higher output 9k bridge pickup? I’m leaning toward the one specked as a bridge pickup. The hotter the better?

I ALWAYS go for the higher output, but thats just me. I like more aggressive pickups better for some reason.

Looks fantastic! Is that a Marty Bell finish?

Right you are sir! It's silver & gold sparkle, and the back is tobacco. I did extensive chambering on a heavy alder J clone from '89 (Signature). It has a maple top (thicker than a veneer) which was also chambered. Also imbedded a brass bridge anchor threaded for brass machine bolts - solid!

Started out with cream pu covers. All the hardware is a silver & gold mix...

including the Hipshot Drop-D tuner -

I love my Hipshot Supertone, but some people swear by the Babicz, and there's always the KickAss bridges (probably not drop-in).

Babicz for me all the way. They have more string height adjustment and intonation adjustment. And they look better. But they cost $100 more.

Hipshot is a great company. With first class customer service. They sent me different length intonation screws gratis. But the Supertone didn’t work for me on two Thunderbirds I tried it on. It sits in a box now, waiting for something I can use it on to fly in.

Babicz for me all the way. They have more string height adjustment and intonation adjustment. And they look better. But they cost $100 more.

Hipshot is a great company. With first class customer service. They sent me different length intonation screws gratis. But the Supertone didn’t work for me on two Thunderbirds I tried it on. It sits in a box now, waiting for something I can use it on to fly in.

Supertone worked for me - early pic of my Saundersbird before installing the FCS/Kubicki 9v pre. I had a generic 4-band pre in it - it sounded ok.

Used it recently (Beaster Sunday) - just for fun.

Gluff makes some good quality bodies with really nicely figured wood as long as you don’t mind a semi hollow body. My BlingBird is a Gluff body that I had Pat Wilkins finish in tiger eye burst…

It chose you wisely. Since 1963, Gibson Reverse Thunderbirds have had the fastest, most comfortable necks of any bass ever made.

Don’t believe the conventional Talk Bass nonsense. Most who comment negatively have no, or minimal, experience playing them. It isn’t a PBass. It is not a JBass. Thunderbirds have their own unique sound. If needed, you can get close to both P and J sounds depending on the amp and settings. Or effects. I find that mine are very versatile.
