When I recreated the wiring for my BC Rich Eagle, I mounted all the components on a piece of pickguard material, wired it and then transferred it to the bass.
That’s kinda the way I typically do it, with all components mounted to a work board that I can hold in a clamp and turn to any angle needed for soldering. In this case there was going to be just barely enough spare room for the wiring and battery. I thought about making a template to account for all the odd contour bump outs in the control cavity but figured it would take as long to do that as if I just wing it. It was certainly touch and go and required a lot of surgical precision with the soldering iron (that I had set on higher than normal heat for fast in and out soldering) so as not to accidentally brush against any circuit board components or odd wires that might be in the way.

But then you have the template for the next time.

BTW - the topic of “Where can I get a Tbird kit so I can build my own” occasionally pops up here. I ran across this one the other day. Haven’t tried it, so no idea on how good it is, but I thought I’d throw it out there for future reference if needed.

I’ve wondered abou those. Do the bodies you get come with the ground wire tunnel to the bridge post?

Mahogany body, maple neck, ebony board - apparently. I was thinking about doing a similar Iceman kit, but with a rosewood FB.

Bond Girl at our last show at the "No Name Bar"/Sausalito - no room on the tiny stage for Geo! We'll be at the Hotel Utah/SF Saturday night.

Hindenburg? Stay away from anything flammable.
I didn't think of fire. I was thinking more of all the warnings we see about spraying any kind of liquid in anything plugged in to electricity. It didn't turn into a snuff short on youtube so I was happy about that and the problem was identified. Win, win.

So, we’re showing our backsides now. Ok here’s my pink NR on the flip side after the Passive Controlectomy and Active Transplant…

The new guts up close. A real challenge trying to fit a volume, pan, neck bass cut/boost, neck treble cut/boost, neck bright on/off, bridge bass cut/boost, bridge treble cut/boost, bridge bright on/off control layout (basically two 2 band preamps and a battery) in a three knob passive control cavity, but I did it. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any of my shrink fit tubing so had to do with electrical tape temporarily at the solder connections (hate doing that, it just turns into a sticky mess over time).

Before (those are alpha mini pots)…
