If it turns out to be a bad pup, I have the 760’s from my ‘22 VP I just bought that I might be will to part with.
Any theory on why a bad pickup would give continuity to both jack lugs? Would an internal bridge between the windings and ground do that? All that still has to pass through the tone pot where ground and hot are separate lines.

I dig your Videos. I have no idea how you play a T-Bird with the bloody covers over the bridge and pickup

All about the sweet spot (for me), my right hand on the bridge cover and a .73 Tortex pick = magic with a '76 :)

By continuity do you mean dead short (0 ohms) on the pickup center lead to braid? I think you should have like 14k on the pickup.

One more data point. Center lug on pot has continuity with the can regardless of pot on/off. Not true with bridge pot. So, the hot leg is grounded somewhere. Will pull the pickup and look.
I would disconnect everything and test each component separately. It's a little more work, but it will be easier to find the trouble.
And you can do a nicer job than whoever was in there before.
Edit: just saw you posted its working. Maybe there is an intermittent short at the pickup.

Sounds like a plan. I probably already have the tone cap (just let me know what it currently has and I’ll check my inventory).

LOL - (manual transmission) anti theft device.
I got it to work. I had to tighten the output jack, bend the contact prong into position, and give the knob 100 turns. Seems all better now.

The tone pot is the standard Alpha A500K found in most Epis.

Continuity meaning I get a tone on my multimeter when connecting one end of the line to the other end. So, I was getting a beep when touching the center lug with one probe and either lug on the jack. It was working for a minute, now not…

Next step, unsolder the pickup and test ohms.
