Who is the pickup maker?

What are the differences between a 1970s and a c. 1990 pickup?

Pup maker is Aaron son of Kent son of Dan Armstrong (of plexiglass bass fame), I've known Kent since about '86 but he moved back to the States before the turn of the Millennium. Kent is just genius when it comes to pickups of all sorts - and being fair to Aaron I don't think he's far behind! Aaron still lives near me in England. In the county of Kent! :roflmao:

As for the Greco pups, I was kinda hoping someone on here had some specs for either, or both those runs of pups - I believe, from someone's post yesterday, that they were made by different companies.

I have a 1977 II and a 1990 IV. I find the 1990 pups to have slightly more boom in the bottom end, they still sound fantastic though. I do know those two years pups were made by different factories but I don’t know that they are really any different in sound. My 1977 has ancient flats on it and my 1990 has new boomers on it. Plus IIRC the pickup locations are in slightly different spots. So there are enough variables to pretty much make a direct comparison of the two basses irrelevant.

If I were going to reverse engineer one pup it would be the 1977 because I believe that was the first generation of the Greco birds and I think that year the Tbirds were positioned as a premium offering from Greco vs later years where they were in the normal Greco line up. So possibly more time and money involved in making the older pups, just a guess.
