Thunderbird Club

Still reading those glassdoor posts.

Someone needs to rescue Gibson from Henry J.

Couldn't agree more, there's a post on LBO regarding the company's financial status - pretty grim.

The Dunlop Heavy Core come in "Heavy" (.110) "Heavier" (.115, which are what I use) and "Heaviest" (.120 or .130...I can't remember which). They're matched to the desired tuning, although I've got a set of "Heaviest" on my Goff Bird and they work fine in drop C. I didn't see an advantage to that guage in that timing so I went a little lighter and got very similar results.

I'll have to look them up. Are they specific for dropped low string, or are the sets "balanced"? Ie what are the rest. I suppose I could find out on my own too. Iirc I looked at just about everything, and all the .115 sets usually were 95 75 55. Woe is me.

Hi everyone, I'm working on a deal that would end with me bringing home an epi thunderbird (the bolt on version). I've been flirting with getting some kind of thunderbird for a while, so I'm excited.

Anyway, it doesn't have a case that's coming with it, so I'm hoping you guys can recommend a gig bag that's a decent fit. I realize there's a specific case epiphone makes, but I'd prefer a bag. I also realize this isn't the first time this has been asked, I did a quick search and saw the name "ritter" mentioned a few times, but can't find much for them other than a website with no specific product information.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

The Ritter is awful in my experience. Useless padding and it started falling apart around the pockets. I'd highly recommend the Gator ProGo Bass bag. Take out the removable pad at the bottom and the Thunderbird fits quite well, at least the Gibson. It's taken quite a bit of abuse around the NYC subway and neither the bag nor the bass is any worse for the wear. The MONO Vertigo will also work with the pad removed. But I find the Gator much more practical, plus more inexpensive.

I am using roadrunner avenue RR1EB gigbags. $39 normal price at GC but have gone on sale as low as $29.

It is a tight fit, but it is a fit. Much better than that cheap fender bag with nonexistent padding.
