Its technically still part of the bass, i didn't modify the body in anyway other than for the pickups in terms of routing.

^^^from a large 24" x 24" ply sheet, cut two pieces. Pinned & glued in place, trimed edges & filled all gaps between them & existing body. Only levelled out the excess ply thickness to match the center section.

Currently playing the bass, & they don't feel as cold as when i first installed em. Sometime to settle in, & i love the tone so far. The pickups really match what i heard as a thunderbird, they definitely growl.

To all my Thunderbird Brethrens and Sisterens: It's been wonderful sharing yet another year with each of you. The ups we've experienced have been made better and the downs made somewhat more tolerable due to the good people here. Blessed to be part of such a wonderful club!

Well, I continue to be disappointed..this one is as mint as it could be with the plastic still on the control plate…again…Just a micro scuff at the top of the headstock.

It seems like all of the Thunderbird sellers that I’ve had dealings with are cool people. This fellow was no exception..
So when my paint store opens I will re supply my finishing materials and then I’ll get started.
Winter is the best time to paint around here.
Lower humidity and no flying bugs in the paint shed :)

Epi really has done a fine job on their bursts. The wood almost always looks great.

I ordered a 2012 TV Silver Special Edition Epiphone Thunderbird. It'll be here in a few days, so I guess I'm jumping the gun a bit, but I'm really excited to have a Thunderbird again.

I had an Epiphone Thunderbird IV years ago and didn't really care for it. Then I had a Gibson Thunderbird that was great, but it didn't get played much so I sold it - another sale I regret. Lately every time I walk into GC they have an Epiphone 60's Thunderbird hanging on the wall. I pick it up and play it and its amazing - I don't remember my Gibson sounding anywhere near that good.

Maybe I should have picked up one of the 60's Thunderbirds, but when I saw the TV Silver for sale, I decided to give it a try. I've seen these TV Silver ones for years and thought they looked really cool. I even bought one on Reverb once and the seller flaked out and never shipped so I got a refund.

Does anyone know exactly what makes this a special edition? Other than the color, I read that the pickups were Les Paul Guitar pickups - is this true, and if so how do they sound?

Here's a pic from the seller. I'll post pics and a review after I receive it and get it setup and play it a bit.

I'm glad to see the truss rod cover is holding up. I made it out of aluminum and put a Gibson logo on it and sprayed some clear coat over it. I wasn't sure it would last.

They were huge here through the 70s.

Alan emigrated here after he was ejected from Quo. Started a band called The Bombers and then got a gig in one (of many) version of The Party Boys. Rotating members doing covers and having a blast.

He was in this version on bass and curly hair, the singer is John Swan (Swanee) who is Jimmy Barnes’ big brother. Kevin Borich (a Kiwi Aussie) from the LaDeDa’s and Kevin Borich Express (KBE) is on a Firebird.


I saw the Party Boys a few times as they did the pub and club circuit.
Other versions singers were James Reyne (Aus Crawl), Richard Clapton, Graeme ‘Shirley’ Strachan (Skyhooks), Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo). Joe Walsh did a stint one time, he and KB did a take on Duelling Banjos called Duelling Guitars which was fun.

Well said, Donnie. We're spending it in a Costa Rican rainforest along side a volcano. Could be worse.
