Thunderbird Club

I had Sunbeams put on my just received Dicola equipped Tbird. Great lows/mids, the growl is pretty subtle, this bird might need, gasp, steels, I never thought I'd say that, I've never liked them. What do you use on yours? George?
I’ve tried a horde of different strings on my 2015 bird with the DiCola pickups. La Bella black tapes are what I’ve settled on for the 2015. But keep in mind I’m typically after a warm bottom end and warm top end. @Gaolee and @MCF may have a different take.

I was there with the Country band, with my Hard Rock, I'm looking for growl you can never quite tame. Just realized I had the deep switch on my SushiBox Slampegg, I'll try with it off before I look at Steels.

OK, this is just a funny song. Don't think I've ever heard of him. This this is hilarious.

Very clever. I grew up in the dead center of the US (Omaha Nebraska) - although technically the "dead-center" is somewhere in Oklahoma... (whatever) - just look at a map. Anyway, I had just as much chance to be a real 'rednecker' (yes, the song/vid is spot-on/funny) but I eventually (many years later) took a left-turn to CA where I still reside. So I get the cliche' south/mid-west 'culture' schtick... and yes, this vid is entertaining. When in my last years of (undergrad) art school in the mid '70s in KC/MO, we (a few artist friends from the west & midwest) cut our shoulder & longer long hair short, wore vintage (cheap thrift store) western shirts & cowboy hats & bought and drove (used) pick-up trucks. We took it on as a "persona" of our roots - a theatrical personification of "redneckism". Aside from that, we also appreciated music from that source - Texas Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Jerry Lee Lewis, Red Sovine, Buck Owens, Sun Sessions Elvis, Charlie Pride, Charlie Rich, Johnny Paycheck... to name only a few. Still some of my favorite music. (I don't listen to current C&W music - at all)

One of my fave bands is Cracker - first Santa Cruz based but now Fresno area. Their music speaks to me.

And in my youthful hard-workin'-days - I did work hard inside and outside achieving that "red-neck" under the sun. But as much as I lived frugally as a struggling self-employed artist... I never considered myself "blue collar". And, I'm nowhere near affluent now - I continue to be more an outside observer of those economic/sociological genres as an artist.

That's really weird looking. Must have been made on BYOB day at work. If from the factory, that would seem to classify a bass as a "second." Of course it could have been done later, but for what purpose?

My '64 is nice and clean (sober) around the edges.

BYO bourbon would do that and worse. It would explain the bridge on my Pro V…

The first time I communicated with a Thunderbird bassist online was about 20 years ago on the Latitudes and Attitudes sailor’s forum since I was living aboard a sailboat at the time (and still do). This guy was also a sailor who played in a band in the late 60’s/early 70’s.

Don’t remember your name, but are you lurking on this site, or does anyone know someone like that?

Great info Sub! I started using SIT guitar strings when Nashville Straights went out of business. I didn’t start using them on basses until our buddy Ken started singing their praises.

When Bobby at Clark Music in Atlanta told me Nashville Straights had gone out of business, I bought the last dozen sets they had. I don’t recall how I got them home on my motorcycle; I’d just dropped in to get some picks.

I'm VP on the board of directors and you have my full backing.
(OK, it's not actually Epi/Gibson's Board, but as a non-member of the Board of Directors, my vote is yes.)

Those things are such great ideas. I don't understand why they in some way haven't been tried. Talk about making Epi a more high-end looking bass. As we've lamented before, I can't fathom why Gibson hasn't had some inlays at least from time to time. Could be if Epi gets too much attention it could very well cut into the Gibson market.

since Gibson mainly focuses on guitars and Epi already dominates the Bird market, whyyyy?
