You also feel better paying a good luthier to do repairs you can’t and appreciate a good job better.

While I can fit nuts etc., my specialist repair shop does a fantastic job that I am willing to pay for.

Yes, considering my own example - as much as I know I could make a neck, it would take aquiring specific tools and making a number of trial & error versions before I'd feel confident of the result. It's the only part of a bass I 'farm-out' (to my specs), in this case to master luthier Dan Ransom here in SF and I help support him in the process. He's working on one for me now, hopefully done soon.

Ha! It does look a little like him but dang that is a killer version! First time I've heard Zappa's version. He was a Mad genious!

Those are nice Thunderbirds. They were part of that GC Gibson blowout sale in 2015. It and the ‘15 were first $1099.00 the first week, then $999.00 the second week of the sale in the Fall. I haven’t seen a Gibson Thunderbird in the local GC since. From the looks of it, that could be one of those someone bought to flip for a quick profit. It sure looks minty.

Does anyone know of an output jack on Gibson Thunderbird's that "grab" the cable better?

My T Bird cuts out with right angle cables when any pressure is applied. It's fine with straight cables. This cable works perfect with every other fender style jack (every other bass I own). My tech said the jack feels pretty loose and doesn't really grab the cable at all (and I agree).
Switchcraft or Neutrik. Everything else is a distant third or worse. They're not terribly expensive so get the best. It's worth it.

I have followed your breadcrumbs to their logical conclusion. Mwuhahahahaha!!! I will use the secret Illuminati mind control tags so no one will be able to do anything with the information.

Never seen them in the same room. Makes sense.

I have a question regarding the T Bird pick ups... If you remove one of the pick ups does it affect the sound at all?? So say you have one PU at zero and one on full, would it sound different just getting rid of one?? Instead of simply turning it off on the bass?
That's a matter of debate. Theory says yes, but can you or I hear it? The only way to know for sure is to wire in a temporary switch to remove the second PU from the circuit. The switch could hang out of the control cavity.
That way you could do quick A/B comparisons.
