Thunderbird Club

 Time for some slap and spin!
There wasn't much room for that, but they got a bit of spin. The first one got an amusing reaction. It got a similar reaction earlier in the day playing bluegrass at a farmers market. Two shows means I am kinda tired today. That is a lot of gear lugging.

Fire season has started in NorCal. Farm just got an evac notice. Large beasts in trailer and dogs in my truck. Let the fun begin. Cal Fire gets a little jumpy as you never know what the wind will do in the Central Valley.
Well crap. Can't like this at all. I hope you are not affected in the end.

2 Blues sets here at 2 today with King Bee should be fun..…:bassist:

Bond Girl gig report from last night : The Makeout Room (Mission SF) is a biggish club with high ceilings with lots of shiny hanging things and kinetic lighting. Stage is two-tiered with classic red velvet curtains. Sound... well, the sound was ok but I didn't notice it until listening to the other band but the space has a really loud air fan?/system that made hearing music played quietly difficult. It's an old joint and it could definitely use an upgrade for that unit - only relatively loud music would sound ok. As Cherie puts it "we are a James Bond rock band" and we play relatively loud, but always making sure her vocals are heard above everything else. My amp was on the top tier with drums and I was on the lower tier so I could hear my bass loud & clear - it sounded really good actually. Overall we sounded ok, but not great due to the room (with that loud fan) and a a sub-standard FOH. I had a hard time hearing Paul (guitar) on the other side of the stage. Really dark also so navigating the two-tiered stage setting up with cords everywhere was precarious. Unexplainably, my B9 set-up wasn't working. I attempted trouble-shooting but due to time and difficulty in seeing in the dark, I just used my POG pedal instead. I only use the B9 on two songs and only one of them was on our setlist. These things happen at gigs. You come prepared and have set-up countless times with no issues, and one tiny thing/detail derails success. It was fairly minor - and for sure no-one knew the wiser. Today I went through everything and it all worked perfectly.

Doesn’t look that big from the outside.

Doesn’t look that big from the outside.

Kind of a narrowish entrance lined by the bar that expands into a fairly big space. There's a club in Oakland that has a similar layout, probably from around the same era.

No one I knew growing up was into Bowie. Other than here, that is still the case. Everyone obviously heard of him, but he just wasn't a draw. He seemed interesting, and that was about it. Not a reflection on his abilities, more about how his abilities were not of interest to many people.
I think many of his songs were outside what the average listener expected, and his look / sexuality weirded some people out. But even in Augusta, and more so in Atlanta, he had fans. I like some of his music. He was a good showman, too.

Received notice of non renewal on my auto insurance policy. Excellent driving record. Had to jump through hoops to reinstate the policy. Then four months later received a notice of non renewal on my home owners/fire/earthquake/umbrella policies, never had a claim in the 10 years living here, again jumping through hoops to hopefully get them reinstated using California Fair plan for fire coverage. My insurance agent has informed me the policy costs will probably double, rivaling my mortgage payment. Seems like insurers would prefer not to write policies in CA right now. Add to that a bit of talk at the State level of implementing an exit tax on net wealth next year and it looks like I’m outta here if possible this calendar year. Shame, because CA really is a beautiful state, but I figure I can visit it as often as I want and not have to deal with the financial antics that have become the norm here.
“We don’t have the will to solve the problems so we’ll just add more stupid taxes.”

I was given a (new) copy of "The Man Who Sold the World" by a friend whose mom was a local radio DJ. She gave him LP's that weren't played on her station. I loved it right out of the gate. Later bought the LP with "Ground Control to Major Tom" and then "Ziggy Stardust". By that time both young men & women were dying their hair red and wearing make-up & platforms. I even had a pair of black-suede platform ankle-boots, although I never wore make-up. :) The way TMWStW was recorded/sounded was unlike anything I'd heard up to that point.

...right from the first song -

Bowie toured Cleveland several times and I saw his 1st American tour. Those were some very good concerts and as you mentioned it was a unique experience!

Pretty sure George @GBassNorth was able to buy a Tbird shaped body from somewhere
Yes, bodies purchased off of eBay, made by Rosser Guitars and Gluff Guitars.

^^^^This - hope all is OK Dave. Check in when you can.
Ditto! Sorry to hear about the losses so far, praying there aren’t any more and all stay safe.
