There's a reason I have two numbers in the crappy bass players with expensive gear club! Sounds like we have a few others who could raise the 'Bird representation there. I'm all for it.

Is there a club for me? Crappy player with cheap gear?
I suspect that there is little genetics in musical (and some other, but not all) talents. Music is greatly influenced by nurture; if you are exposed early in life and have influences (family and friends of family) that take music seriously and impart that knowledge, it can stimulate the interest and result in sufficient drive to practice enough to develop some skills. As well, music is like a language, and early exposure creates a facility that will not be seen in others that do not share that exposure. That is a brain development issue much more than a genetic issue.
Conversely, there are people that are not well positioned to do things - essentially an antitalent - this includes languages, mathematics, and music. For those people, learning these things will be a struggle. With determination and time, they can develop a facility, but it will never be as easy. These are people that are tone deaf and non-numerate. This could also be a result of nurture, but that is less clear.
Sorry, you hit a hot button for me. I work in science and so am very precise in the way I use words like genetic, clone, etc. because those words have very specific meanings. I recognize that in colloquial conversation those words are used differently but that doesn't make it right.
My Dad used to say we descend from a family with cloth ears....
I struggle with learning or understanding spoken foreign language even if I get a basic level of written knowledge.
I'm no natural at music either.
