I think you are missing the shrooms. Maybe it would make sense if you had a healthy dose of those. (Or what the shop owner had.)
They are beautiful, but all those prices seem insane for CBS basses. Even the old Pbass seems really high. Fishing for huge offers and likely had them a good while.
Yes, with an almost certainly slow rate of return at those prices. Unless one is going to live another 50 yrs maybe. More like for the artist who receives weekly checks the size of most people's quarterly income or more. Good on them for getting there, I wish more could live the dream, but it sure makes vintage instruments unaffordable for most average players. Which is why my '58, '64 Pbasses and '62 J have all have the body professionally refined at some point. Which is fine by me. Made them "reasonable" to justifiable in buying given they are not making me any money via playing.
Oh, and I have a 1971 Jazz with the rare pickup spacing in a custom order black for $25,000 if any one is interested! Even has the covers and original Fender strap.
(Everyone here would get the family discount--better than normal price.)

No I'll be playing a Tbird or the Ripper.
Because the notes in that part are up high, they would all be over the staff in Bass clef.
It is a nice challenge and change of pace to play a classical piece.

So, to be a pro like you and your daughter, you need to be able to play bass and read both clefs. That concept makes my head hurt.
So it will be the Ripper, given you can't play classical or anything approaching it on a Thunderbird.

I still don't know how pianists do it. I reckon that's why they have two eyes that don't always have to be pointing in the same direcgtion.
It's why I turned every keyboard into an organ. Just read the treble clef and the cords.
I had been playing my semi-hollow Ibanez in the community concert band 'cos it comes 'close'(?) to sounding like an upright. Sorta. But the program for our next concert has some selections that I felt would sound better on the TBird. I was right and yet with small adjustments on the tone knob it sounds perfectly fine in that setting. FYI, we do classical pieces, movie theme medleys, marches, etc. I've often said that if I could have just one, it'd be the 67NR.So it will be the Ripper, given you can't play classical or anything approaching it on a Thunderbird.
Being an ex-saxist(and B4 that, pianist), I also read treble clef. And I don't have Marty Feldman eyes.
Yeah. Once it gets up around three lines up G, I gotta write in the name of the note-at least for rehearsal.
