Thunderbird Club

To not tell a customer with a two week old string that broke due to what had to be a defect that they were SOL. Dunlop, SIT and others would no doubt replace the string, based upon posts here over the years.
I’ve only ever had one string break on me, an EBCF IIRC. It was user error. I didn’t follow their unique winding instructions, which may have contributed to the issue, but the real culprit was tuning the D string while distracted but thinking I was tuning the A string. Oh snap! There went that brand new string.
BTW - I love La Bella black tapes, sound great and last forever. Never had a problem with silks on those.

Wish I could have been there! Was so looking forward to being back in Seattle and seeing the gang again. At least I got a chance to jam with Geo. And many thanks to he and Dave (along with any others) that helped put the shirts together for the GTG. I just got mine a few days ago and it’s wonderful as are all the pics from the GTG. Can’t wait until next year, I hope to be there this time.

So, for 2025 are we flocking to Marshall’s mountain retreat (we could split a cord or two of wood for him), or maybe Dave’s Farm (I’m sure he could use some farm hands for a few days), heck if nothing better comes up I might even offer up my house here or where ever I end up by this time next year.
I was under the impression it was Alemania?

You can add DR to that list. I did something stupid once and was completely up front about it, asking if I could buy one string, and they just sent me one for free. I think it might've been the owner I spoke to on the phone. Super nice guy.

A local bought the wrong black pickguard from Eb*y for his Eppi Thunderbird, and I bought it for $30 (sorry Irv). I'm not sure which of my VPs to put it on.

I thought about putting it on the white VP, my wife prefers it on the black VP. What do ya'll think?

I agree with your wife. Always agree with the wife.

Very true. I have read the pick playing will wear the nylon, but have not experimented that. But I have too many basses and it's not played all the time. But playing finger style, I can't see how they would not last well over a decade. Like a flat, basically.
That was how I discovered round wounds.
The wrap on a tape wound string broke and it was a round wound string underneath. After I stripped off the tape wrap I liked the sound of it. This was the early 70’s. Next stop was Rotosounds.

😊

Luck of the draw, it happens and is not worth the self aggravation and blame game.

I never followed the EB stringing instructions, ever.
Not a single break.

Need an ignorance pothole filled. I may be the only one who doesn't know the answer to this somewhat odd question. With two heads I was thinking of having both connected to the same cab and just turning on whichever head I wanted to use, leaving the connections from both heads to the speaker cab in place. One would be speakon to speakon and the other just 1/4in to 1/4in.
1. Is there a problem to either head or cab doing this?

2. If not, could both heads be on at the same time if I wanted? Not sure I would, but while I'm thinking about it.

I got irritated with DR several years ago when I asked what I thought was a good question about a certain string. No reply. Things happen so I sent it again a month or so later. I gave up of them helping a customer find the right string. Emailed SIT. A guy there replied and gave me great info.

Recently I had an Ashdown question to clear up some things I was hearing about certain tubes. I was going to ask Chuck but thought why not just ask Ashdown to see if they had a thought on it, if no reply then I would bother Chuck. In less than 10 minutes Dave Green himself replied. Told me what I was reading on the internet from some tube and techs was typical rubbish from internet "experts." Suggested a JJ tube, which did sound a little better (very smooth break up and not farty) than the Eden that was in it. I thanked him for the info and told him I was thrilled with my my new old ABM. He replied again with a comment and said he was really pleased I was enjoying the head.

Oh snap, indeed.

the internet is just as wrong (or not) as the person posting……

unrealistic expectations for non mission critical production….then again, they may have been counterfeit…..
You at least offer a free string if they return the broken one. Happy customer and you determine the problem. If counterfeit, you address that.
