Thunderbird Club

I bought a polyester shirt from Leroy's Fine Menswear in Seattle. Turns out Kenny G shopped there to look sharp before he hit it big. Leroy himself told me that the ladies like it when you look sharp. Leroy is gone now, so I'm back to schlepping around like the unfashionably non-polyester person I am, although I still have that shiny black shirt and get it out for gigs occasionally.
Which brings up another funny story. (I've told it before here, but long ago) I attended a Mike Watt show when he first played at Winters' years ago. (he was there again last Sat night) It was for a Steve McKay tribute as Steve (sax-man who played on Fun House) was a Pacifica residence. I was fortunate to jam with SM twice shortly before he passed. Anyway - CJ wanted something to remember Watts being 'in the house' (big Minutemen fan) so I made a "little bass" tribute for him to sign. He finished his show and was up in the green-room where I hoped to have him sign the bass. Unfortunately Jello Biafra gloomed on him and wouldn't stop talking, trading war-stories. I sat across the room for hours waiting as they yakked for an opportunity. Jello finally left briefly to visit the rest-room, so around 3AM I finally got I'm to sign it.

Long story short - one of Watts stories I overheard involved Iggy Pop, who Watt toured with a couple years and coincidentally his battered "baby bass" (modified SG) was stolen during their tour - still not recovered. Watt said he got a phone call in the middle of the night from Iggy. "Watt? - Iggy Pop - I'm told you are who I want on my upcoming tour"... groggy Watt... "ok, yah, sure" IG; "One thing - lose the flannel" ... W; "white T-shirt, jeans & converse?" IG; "perfect"

I agree, thanks for the info!

I contacted Zzounds and they sent a RA label by the next morning. I'll get it packed and out hopefully by tomorrow.
Got the first bass repacked and shipped last week, Zzounds notified me on Monday that they had received it and were shipping the replacement out. It arrived today. I am so glad that I returned the first one, no cracks at all, the bridge height/pickups looks good, and even better, the finish has quite a bit more metalflake.

Zzounds did a great job. It wasn't the first time that I have used their customer service and they come through every time.

I had to take a pic out in the sunlight.

They're impossible to take a good picture of...........
Yet, they look good in person. Glad to hear Zz Sounds took good care of you :)

I know nothing about him as a person. His music never interested me. Clearly it interests a lot of others. That's the way the reed splits.
I never got the interest either. Or the popularity with women. But he is talented, I’ll give him that. And he sold millions of records when that was still a thing. But Whenever his music comes on, I can’t switch it off fast enough.

Excellent! Glad you returned it and the replacement is a winner.

Here's that Lull T4 II we were talking about the other day hanging in the shop.

That's a great looking II. Most look empty if not lacking symmetry without the bridge pickup (but having the cover like your's really helps). Personal preference most don't share, I know. Yet that one looks great as is.

Funny you mention that. I also had some red nylon parachute pants with more zippers than necessary. (Not MC Hammer pants - but nylon cargo pants that were called parachute pants - perhaps because of the feel).

There was a gal at work at work in the payroll dept (newspaper office), and we called her Jamie Jetson. She had red orange hair, and a penchant for wearing crazy outfits... like a silver jumpsuit like what Patty Labelle might have owned. Needless to say, she was a spectacle, and we all loved her. I wore some colorful get-ups myself... so in a way... I was like her male counterpart. Jamie's big time to shine was on holidays - wearing whatever colors coincided with the occasion. I decided to throw down the glove, and challenge her to a contest. Who can wear the most articles of clothing in the appropriate colors wins. The upcoming holiday was Valentine's Day - so she thought she had the win for sure. I dug out everything red and white that I had (no pinks), including the red zippered pants. Red sneakers... red & white striped socks. Red and white bandana. Red & white shirt. And the clincher - red bikini briefs. Jewelry did not count. Anyhow, as the judges counted articles of clothing, it came down to a tie. So, that's when I tugged the pants down (on the side) low enough to reveal the red briefs. She had on black undies sadly, thinking she wouldn't need any more red. So I beat her! The office couldn't believe it. Jamie never accepted another challenge...!
Somebody say Red?

His early solo work was great. He was great live as well.

I got to talk with him the first time I saw him. He was the opening act and no one knew who he was. Kind of funny encounter. I was mixing a drink over a garbage can. Poring Coke out and Bourbon in and I look up and see him walking on the other side so I acknowledged him. He stopped and said, "Man, that S.... will kill you." I said, Yeah, but it's gooood! He laughed and walked off to the concession stand. He flashed a pass and they gave him a cup of something. I had moved a way some waiting for a friend. He went over to the same can and poured some of what they gave him out and started to pour something in. I walked by and said, ("Man, don't you know that S.... will kill you." He cracked up and said, "Yeah, but it's goooood!" We both laughed and went our own ways.
