How did your eye surgery go? All good I trust.

I think so, yes. It only hurt when they were deadening the nerve before digging in. After that, fine. I've got an air bubble in my left eye now that's slowly being replaced with liquid. It's weirding out my depth perception and peripheral vision, also it's a little like having a spirit level in my eye, lol. I should probably take a dip in the pond and see if I come to the surface any quicker than usual.

So I haven't left The Earthmen yet, I was a little warped at our BL, but when talking it over with my wife, who's lived here all her life, my attention was brought to the fact that the scene here is somewhat different than the one I grew up in (Miami). It's more social in a sharing way. Which, for my idea of what a band is, doesn't work so much!
Only a band that was very established would bring another group up for a mini set, or have someone up to sit in for a couple songs. Bands striving for their place on the scene would never do that. There was always a friendly rivalry between bands- like walking in the club in your number and going to stand right in front of your rivals mid-set, arms folded, stone faced. Waiting for them to blow a clam! They'd see you coming, of course, lol.

Here they drag each other up and play a tune they can belt or blow a solo on. Different ethic. Not mine, I prefer the heavy thing, the competitive thing. I think it's a good tension, and then after you make them screw up you buy them a beer and have a laugh.

So anyway I'm an Earthman for now. In ways we've gotten pretty good, and I can get us to play tunes I think we'd be good at, and that's been working out. I just need a project of my own, finally...Bass VI and a drummer. I need a drummer. Maybe another bass player...

Enough about me, lol.

My originals band is a trio. We plan our shows, so we're adding musicians during each set and it ends up being a 6 or 7 piece by the end of the set.

That's your format? That's cool if it's the gig, I get that. That can be fun, the music gets bigger as the night progresses...
My Miami band, The Volunteers, had a revolving door for various peripheral/acoustic instruments like squeeze box, mandolin, bagpipes, etc. But we still just did our thing- whoever was in the current lineup was the band for whatever shows we had booked. We never had people come up.

Yes, it makes the show more interesting. A bass/drums/guitar instrumental band with each guy taking a solo every song is only going to hold the average listener's interest for so long.
Last time we added sax, then trombone, then a singer.

You're either into her or not. I dig her, for me there's a lot to like... I also am ok with admiring her from a distance, she's got some heavily intimidating vibe that goes with that great mantel of up-in-your-face sexy.
But, Running Up That Hill is one of my favorites from the 80s. That and "Don't Give Up" with Peter Gabriel. I like her voice.

Her story is pretty outstanding. Discovered as a teen phenom by Peter Gabriel - she entered as MTV launched and dived both-feet into the theatrics of music video's, one co-staring friend Donald Sutherland. She is a tiny dynamo in the caliber of Prince and they worked together on this song -

We never had people come up on our 'stage' in the Ramada on Milam Dairy Road in Miami. There wasn't enuff room for the 4 of us. Fergit anyone else.

Glad it over. Kind of gives some gravitas to the term eyeballing it for level. If you can replace a Transit you may be onto something big--for a while!

My mother has macular degeneration in both eyes and has to get a shot in each eye about once a month. I dread it for her.
