Thunderbird Club

I just read on the Ozbass Forum that one of our Tbird club members has passed away.
Veebass, who may have had the first VP into Australia from memory, passed away in late 2023. I was actually thinking that he hadn’t posted for a long time just last week.

Anyway, RIP Russell @veebass
Sorry to hear that. Had you ever got the chance to meet up?

Someday people are really going to be after these.
Not sure how I feel about the purple sparkle tbh. I like it but I'm not sure if I like it more than any of the other colors they're doing.

Dealer exclusives are always fun to have though...

It’s definitely a love or hate it color (I love it). IMHO they should have marketed it as Violet Sparkle. I know when I opened mine up the first time I was a bit taken back by the color, I was expecting a bold vibrant deep purple color, instead it’s more of a pastel violet or periwinkle. Still very cool but not what I was expecting. I love glitter and sparkle basses, so some day I guess I’ll have to do a true plum crazy purple glitter Tbird to truly scratch my itch.

Yeah, in my case it's not even that I hate it, I just don't think it would be my first choice if I had two basses in front of me and all things were the same except the color and I could only have one. With infinite budget and space however, I'd have the blue and purple sparkle in the lineup for sure.

The idea that pick bass is a newfangled phenomenon is an absolute joke. People are weird about it though. I try not to waste time arguing with them.
Carol Kay was almost exclusively a pick player far as I know. Her sound was an integral part of a whole lot of music in the 1960s.

Go the Philadelphia Mailatas!

He is a Sydney boy.
He was in the lower echelons of the NRL coming through the Rabbitohs U20s when they decided he wouldn’t make it. Too big for NRL* (not agile enough). Try NFL…. Happy days for him!

* Just call it NRL - it is not “rugby” like you know it. Halfway between that rugby and American Football. You play both offence and defence. Season opens in Las Vegas 1 March, the games are on various Fox sports channels, main game on ‘normal’ TV.

Some Gronk talking about it

Last years explainer

I always played union rules. League has similarities, but is a bit closer to futbal americano. It was a whole lot of fun to play. League looks like it's more of a spectator sport than union rules. Rucks and set scrums aren't as free flowing.
