Thunderbird Club

Was the “floater” worker.
Assigned duty was necks, frets dressing, assembly of tuners and mating to completed bodies. My station was 3 desks away from Leo’s lab.

That said I volunteered whenever someone was out, and took weekend overtime.
Lumber cut, glue up, neck and body rough shape. Router duty. Fret install. Neck radius gang saw. Final sanding.

Drove Leo home a few days out of the month for over a year.

Got to get close to George, Lloyd, Dale etc.
While we love Thunderbirds, there is nothing but huge admiration for Leo here. Once in a life time (if not several) kind of person in my book. I'm in awe of anyone who knew Leo.

More than $700 in very desirable upgrades and the gorgeous fretboard.

Yeah, if no one here takes me up on it, when I put it on local CL it’s going to list for $1995, and $1800 will be my bottom*. On Reverb it’s going up at $2100 with $125 shipping and $1900 will be my bottom*.

* at least for awhile, and then if I recover financially and my guilt about my two recent purchases wanes, I’ll pull the ads and just keep it.

They are. And rare. That was around the time Gibson was paying attention to the Thunderbird cadre. But the runs were limited. For about ten years between ‘05 to ‘ 15, there were a lot of interesting limited runs.

Including the first-ever left-handed run. Other than the seemingly one-off NR that was Tom Petersson's.

I've seen you around, and am not so sure we didn't buy/sell something a number of years ago. But I may be incorrect on that.

Having been at G&L at that time you might appreciate my '81. It's fantastic and is one that will never be sold.

The prettiest guitar I’ve owned was a cherry burst 2003 G&L Legacy Tribute (Premium). Great guitar. When I realized my switch to bass was permanent I sold my electric guitars except my very first. I don’t have a photo that does it justice.

That was a real looker. Few look better than that. I remember when you were selling that.

Since MOPAR was brought up....

My first car. Had a 318 instead of 225. In such a light car it was peppy and with a Thrush a little bit loud.

My second and favorite of all I've owned. Talk about a chick magnet. Countless comments on the beautiful interior.
'76 Cordoba (blue Velour, not leather and nicer carpet than we had in the house) with 400 and Cal emissions. Which meant it ran like crap till it got fully hot.

For the purposes of this thread, both cars were used to carry my '64 Thunderbird.

My first car was a ‘71 Dodge Demon. I wish it had had the 318, but it was the 225. If it had a 318, or 340, I would have probably owned it until it died. I like the shape of the Dart/swinger like yours. The Demon was Duster shaped.

My cousin had a Duster that had the fake snakeskin vinyl roof. While not powerful, those were two of the best engines Chrysler ever made. Take reasonable care of them and they would run trouble free (considering the time) for ever. Same cousin had a 225 with 240k when he got rid of it. Not all highway miles either. Never had anything but reg maintenance done to it. I loved 318 and had several over the years. Just about could not make them run bad--as long as they had Carter's on them.

I bought some SIT Power Flats at really good price. Maybe too good. We'll see if they arrive.
I've found them for sub $20 several times. I actually like them a bit more than EBCF for feel, but definitely a different sound. I have them on my VP and Willbird and strongly considering them for the 64 Gibby.
