Thanks guys; That's going to be my approach.

Happy news, jury duty postponed so I'll be able to call them Monday.

I can see now (investigated a bit more) the loose bottom channel wouldn't be a deal-stopper... so long as it's held to the bottom of the groove when drilled for mounting to the wall.

Bottom channel is really only for retention when the thumbscrew is tightened; top channel carries all the weight load.

Oh, and the rails are 100% symmetrical - only difference between top and bottom is the logo sticker.

Top is to the left here: View with end cap removed ( it's on foam tape ) & bracket fed in from open end, which I can't do once mounted. Going from door frame to closet door millwork.

From this view it almost looks like the aluminum is a bit undersized compared to the milled slots... wonder if they got a bad batch and didn't realize?

That was my thought. It seems like the kit was jacked up from the start.
I have had that happen a few times with things that were shipped to me.

Clearly had been opened or returned before it came to me.

Hope they get you set up correctly, quickly!

They seem to have a good reputation for resolving problems, so fingers crossed.

I just can't come up with a 'how.'

An "engineered wood" piece of laminated particle board with two (probabably CNC-milled) slots, die-extruded aluminum inserts, and die-stamped steel brackets...

Where could this go wrong, in this way?

That's does seem the most likely scenario, or a supplier shipped them incorrect parts and they didn't notice.

Holidays may make their response a bit slower than normal, but I expect they’ll make it all right in the end. Sorry you’re having the issue with the product.

Rehearsals are a funny thing.

When I first started playing with other musicians, was in my late teens to early 20’s.
At that time I couldn’t say I was, “in a band”.

I just knew a lot of people who were just looking for a one night hired gun to do stupid short sets, or a one songer for a long night of battle of the bands.

Always original music.
I either learned the bass part they wanted me to play, or came up with my own on the fly.

Rehearsal?
You met at a studio or someone’s apartment in the village.

Heard the song, maybe sit through it twice, be ready for the gig.
That was it, I was fearless in those days so I didn’t care because I always pulled it off.

Next bout of gigging were my PDX days, again, all original music.
But this time I was in a proper band.
I muscled my way into being auditioned and told the BL I’m gonna be your next bass player, he kinda laughed at me.
Next i knew, he said your in.
He was kinda like an FZ sorta BL.
Play it right or your out.
Wound up writing 90% of the bass parts and even a few songs.

Only reason I loved rehearsing so much was not necessarily the comradery, but the musicianship.
And how everyone was in sync.
