Thunderbird Club

It was 8 here this morning. So cold crazy stuff like this was happening. I knew if I didn't get a pic no one would believe it.

Note to self: Don't stand under trees when it gets this cold. And they aren't happy hitting the snow either.
Got my driveway done..everything was 10 inch ice chunks.
Snow plows really can’t do anything with it so our neighborhood roads are one way ruts.
Not really worried. I’m still on leave from surgery.
7 degrees this morning.

Full, round, rich sidewinder humbucking tone as was originally intended. Pure awesomeness. Thank you George!

@GBassNorth George, do you recall the Pot values on your Bicie? I had a quick look at one of mine last night and it doesn't look like yours. I think I can do the rewire, have a decent, very small, hot iron to work with.

Jeez. I’m really happy I pulled the trigger on one when I did. Looks nice.

Same one on the verb, different ask.

A '77 Greco Thunderbird II just arrived with me... happy to join the club, she sounds amazing. Just wondering if anyone knows of any Badbird II bridges available, or if they are still being made? I believe godofthunder59 is someone to ask!

We would love a picture of your new Thunderbird II!

I have a Bad Bird II on my Greco II as well, it's shy though, hiding behind a bridge cover.

West Coast of North America gets its flow from Alaska, so much more moderate summer temperatures.
The water on the California coast, all the way down through central America, is cooler than the water in the Caribbean or south Pacific. Probably because it gets deeper faster, doesn't have the same coastal reefs, and gets more cold, Arctic currents (Antarctic in the southern hemisphere). I don't know what water temperatures are like off of New Zeeland. That may be more like the Pacific Ocean here.

There’s been a lot of discussion about that. I’ve heard said they are 100K ohm linear taper pots. Chuck confirmed that on his tone pot but there’s apparently no way to confirm that on the volume pots without desoldering them and I didn’t want to mess with mine since it’s all original. In hindsight I should have measured Marshall’s pots when I had it disconnected. If you decide to rewire yours it would be a huge help to confirm what each pot value is and let us know.

As a side note, I prefer audio taper pots vs linear but found very slim pickings in the market for a full size CTS pot at 100K ohms in audio taper with a 3/8” long threaded collar. Even linear tapers were very hard to find. If anyone out there has a supplier that sells these things please let me know. I love the sound of my ‘79 so much that I’m trying to get my Bicentennial pickup equipped White BaCH up to full Bi spec so I can have a Reverse and Non Reverse option in that glorious series configuration.

35 when I got up. 56 now. Still freezing at night, but a few warmer days, anyway!

Series is stock on the Bice, but parallel is stock on most every other bass.
A strange thought just crossed my little pea brain - I wonder if my Greco birds (which are pretty much balls to the wall basses) are wired in series? I’ve never checked, just assumed massive pups in parallel, but they sure sound like a series wired bass. I’ll have to check when I get home.
