It was pretty confusing the first time we went out to eat in Australia. There was no place to add a tip on the bill. We had to ask and the waiter said not to tip. It was weird so we made sure to always have extra cash when we went out to eat.

Thunderbird Thursday just to show off my flashy new strap. Very Bowie inspired so I had to buy it. The blue and red are very metallic looking in person. Not sure how that will hold up on leather long-term but I guess I will find out.

That Trace just looks so inviting and intriguing. How would you compare it to your ABM? Different animal or similar except for...?
I admit I'm a little surprised at how I have my 300 sounding great now for every bass I've used with it. At first it was only a few that the 500 tightened up ('06 and '55 Pbass and some Js), but now that I have the 300 figured out, I'm kind of amazed how much I'm loving it with about every bass. None sound just "good." I've even begun wondering about selling the Ampeg v-4b av which I keep at home with the older 500 on top.

That was how it was here, not a tip is expected when you order yourself and go sit down. It's gotten absurd. My wife wants to tip like crazy and I have to tone it down. I'm still stuck in the time when a tip was when someone provided good service and beyond the basics of what should be expected. I seen crazy stories of people online complaining about not getting tips even after providing awful service.

My ear isn't all that great, but glad someone with talent thinks the Willbird can get close to the 64, that was the whole reason for modding that VP. As a side note, I eventually put SIT Power Flat strings on the 64. I felt that is likely closer to what it had on it out of the Gibson factory in 1964.

Yes, it was fun, as always, you spend more time masking than you do painting - I enjoy painting, masking, not so much.

I do think it looks much better than the stock.

I find this (headstock-body match) to be a great modern take on a classic, just as it is.

Is there a link to a document for the Willbird?

Nothing that was published, but it was straight forward. Start with an Indonesian built VP and move the bridge pickup 1/2" closer to the neck and install the SD Custom Shop Thunderbird pickups. Irv made a special spacer for the bridge pickup so the extra 1/2" of open route was covered. The spacer was a matte finish, so I painted it gloss black to match the ebony finish of the bass. That makes the larger spacer almost invisible.

Masking correctly is where rubber meets the road in my book. And all the fussy details afterwards..., you don't incorporate masking in your RR masterpieces? I would be supremely surprised...
