Thunderbird Club

@Count Bassie you convinced me after I found out it’s the S15X-D with a coax and crossover. $250 for a $1000 cab.

No. I won’t consider tort.

But it’s time to complete the $200 GC Classic Pro project. It is all dialed in. It plays and sounds amazing. Spending time with pickup height adjustment convinced me there is nothing wrong with the pickups. They just needed to be a lot closer to the strings. Which to honor Nikki, are 50-110 EB Slinkys. It sounds like a great modern Thunderbird. So it is worth getting Irv to make a black with chrome Thunderbird emblem and matching TR cover like he did for my LECS Silverburst.

As it is now with a spare pickguard from a VP.

How it will look with a black and chrome pickguard. Anyone think I should stay with the white PG?

This is the horror it was when I got it. Geo graciously cleaned all the superglue off of the finish. I had the chrome Supertone in a drawer.

The black/silver works with the overall gestalt (black burst, black knobs, black pu's) -

Hmm. Thereby hangs a tale. Since the band has quietly ceased to exist due to lack of bookings, I'm not playing at all so what kind of bass I'm not playing doesn't matter.
Sorry, I ended up speaking broadly at the end... my life long classical bassist friends retired a number of years ago after 40 yrs with the KC/MO Symphony as 1st & 2nd bass chairs. When they retired, they sold all their basses. They have always loved music and were dedicated classical musicians, but it was a job and that job ended. Their job was to follow the score/conductor in a professional manner and that's how they related to their instrument. I get that too.

I wish things could be different for you but as you know we don't have ultimate control over our lives. It's hard to know what to say otherwise.., you obviously have some great memories.

Anyone with experience with a GK 212 Neo II cab? Someone local is selling one for dirt cheap. I see them used on Reverb etc. for $475 and have high ratings. Only 8 ohms but also can be bi-amped. Looks interesting.
Dave - some time ago there was a Bergantino HT322 up for grabs at rock bottom pricing in your area. If it’s still available you won’t find a better sounding bass cab anywhere near its price on the planet. That Mesa walkabout was a match made in heaven with my HT322.
Note, the berg cab is as much a PIA to load in and out as it is a sonic beast, not light and all the form factor draw backs of most 4x10 cabs. But by god it just sounded so perfect with that Mesa.

Black for the win!

I’ve got a GK CX115 which is pretty light weight. At least compared to the 410 I have.
Unfortunately the 2 cabs don’t play well together, so I have the 410 under the 100w valve amp, and the 115 under the SS amp - it was to be the easy to carry around setup. Of course everything turned to poo just after I got it.

... What happened?

Speaking of cabs, I've got a line on an unbuilt 12/6, original "fearful" kit (got to admit I kinda hate that name!). But those get very high marks, and it's for unreasonably cheap, so I'm lining it up for next week. The dude's giving me a week to pull it together. If this works out I may be selling the Schroeder.
I'll at least A/B them, which I'm interested in doing. The Schroeder has a very dense sound, lot of low mids, thick, if you will. Nice for a small band mix, it carries weight in a rhythm section. Especially a trio. The 12/6 seems like a very different idea. Different crossover situation mostly. Anybody have a story?
I'll be posting when it gets here, the build, and results.

I think you’re gonna like it a lot.
