Thunderbird Club

The other part of the equation is taking an adequate breath before singing.
I was telling my daughter how while I'm playing bass, I find it challenging to remember to take a breath in preparation for singing a note and coordinating that breath.
She pointed out that as a "string" player, I don't need to do anything before playing a note. My brain isn't conditioned to inhale first.
Horns and singers always have that preparatory action before the note happens.
One issue I've had is singing out of key when recording, at least with the initial couple of takes. I suppose I was too distracted with trying to be on time with the bass and drum tracks. It sounded like I was in key when I sang it, but when I played it back, some of it was off key. It took several tries but I eventually got it right. But was a phenomenon that I never expected, give that I had written the vocal melody.

I struggle with consistency in my singing.

I think I got it now...................
Wishing everybody a great 4th!

Yeah. But that’s how they age. One bass regret is not pulling the trigger on a ‘68 Mustang that was originally LPB for $2200 at a Sacto shop in ‘16. It was marvelously aged. Shoulda, woulda had I the cash to make it a coulda. Oh well.

Good evening Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. I hope everyone is having a great Fourth of July weekend.
I am flying out in the morning for NYC. The annual conference I attend is being held at the Marriott (always a Marriott..) on the edge of Times Square. Weather sounds dicey but hoping to not spend the entire week inside the hotel. I was there several years ago and recall a nice bass shop called Rudy’s if memory serves. It was relatively close and had some nice instruments. I am wondering if anyone knows of any shops or clubs with live music, or recommendations for restaurants in that area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
On a musical note, band drama has been in high season, but not explicitly involving me. Loving my birds, and the NR with flats seems like the perfect fit.
I hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend and a good week. Take care.

I believe Rudy's has moved. It's where I bought the 67(?)NR in 73.

That was an easy read and entertaining. Well realized imagery, that scene went somewhere. That was gratifying. Nice piece of work. You write this?
Sorry I missed your post- I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the compliments. I did in fact write it. I'm on the second round of edits and am currently on page 177 out 427. I admit I'm a bit burned out with all the stylistic mistakes I'm having to correct. But I won't have so many as I get closer to the end, as my style was improving, the further I wrote.

That particular passage starts on page 385 when I was starting to get a little better ...

Everything is practice! Your style is simple but evokes imagery, that's really a good combination. I mean it's not so ornamented or prosaic, it's a related existence. Like someone's telling you the story.

Thank you - in my writing I want the reader to feel as if they were there, a total immersion experience as it were. And I also wanted to write about places people would like to see and characters they would like to meet. The way I used to enjoy the novels of Isaac Asimov, Clifford D. Simak, and Robert SIlverberg.

SF is pretty much my favorite genre though I don't read as much as I used to. Right now I am on page four of a short story I hope to finish in a few weeks. I'm thinking it will be around six to eight pages long.

The novel will probably take at least another year. After finishing the second round of edits, I will most likely submit it to a professional editor then shop for an agent.
