Speaking of rigs...

Someone in my local classifieds are selling a Hartke rig consisting of a HA3000 amp, VX115 cab, 410 Transporter cab and a Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro for $770 (€672).

Anyone here have any experience with Hartke gear?
Solid gear. Had a 410 XL, VX 215, way back had an 1155 combo. Good reliable stuff, reproduced an old Hofner bass very nicely. The cabs I had I would def recommend for working, haul-around use. HA line of heads too.

And cheep!

So, I want a backup head and want to dump my TE 200w combo amp. There is an SVT CL about 45 minutes from me and was thinking of seeing if it was worth it to trade the TE against the SVT. They are asking 1000.00. There is a Peavey VB2 on eBay that isn't getting much movement at 365$ plus 50$ shipping. The VB only is 225w while the SVT is 300w. Which one would you go for?

I love the SVT sound but as a backup it seems like overkill. The Peavey VB2 is supposed to be a great head, weighs less, and costs way less. 225 watts is plenty for a tube head in most situations. Some people use a 100 watt Ampeg V4B and have no issues keeping up and being heard.

I would second the earlier suggestion of getting a solid, lightweight head. Genz makes great small but powerful heads. If you want the SVT sound check out the Tech21 VT head. Great sound for low$$$.

If it's just a matter of throwing out names of Canadian bands -- TPOH!

Loved TPOH but if I was to throw out a couple of Canadian bands I would say April Wine and Last Crack.

I was never a fan of the HA heads. Too bright for me. The newer LH heads have a warmer sound and seem to be pretty popular and have nice price tags. The new Hydrive cabs are pretty nice as well.

Someone mentioned Hamer a ways back. Not a Thunderbird but a close relative my Hamer Blitz in gun metal blue with factory Kahler! Fantastic bass I got it for a song!

Such a beauty!! I will trade you my Bach Bird for it ;) Love my Hamers!!

Jeez dude... I'm not sure what to do with that.
It's a strange amalgamation of the Birds, DEVO, and the "We Built This City" era Jefferson Starship. I honestly have know idea how to react.:help:
I cant imagine what it sounds like hearing it for the first time, this song has stuck with me since I was like 5 or 6 years old and its one of the few songs from Trooper that I even like. Its not even closely related to the usual sounds I listen to.

It blows my mind that, with your amazing collection of basses... a Hamer Blitz with a waffle iron for a bridge receives the title of "best sounding bass"! Does the Blitz have the same "log" neck that their Thunderbird has?

I had two Blitzs but let one go to help finance my Cardinal Red Gibson nonreverse Thunderbird. Seems to be a 34 inch scale, I will have to go measure it !

Had to listen to that on my iPad (not the best device for listening to basslines) and only watched about half of the clip, but poor Victor was nearly buried in that mix. :atoz:

As a side note, a couple of years ago I found a great deal on a Victor Wooten Fodera Yin Yang bass. I was all excited and ready to pull the trigger on the purchase but made the mistake of showing it to my wife first. She's very supportive of my bass acquisition habit, but after looking at the ying-yang design on the front and then the price tag she looked up at me and said, "Get it if you want it, but isn't that a lot of money to pay for a bass made in China?":wideyed:

That completely ruined it for me - needless to say, I passed on the deal. To this day when I see a Wooten bass all I can think of is "Made in China".
Nah man... If you ever get to hear Victor Wooten speak, about anything really... you'll quickly understand his Yin Yang thang. Also... I've passed on a thousand Epiphones over the years because they were made in China (and beyond). Now, thanks to you guys, I own one... and now wonder what I might have missed out on before.

Regarding the video... you can definitely blame your iPad for the lack of bass. That clip is from Gov't Mule's "The Deepest End", which is a celebration of the low end, in honor of the then recently departed Allen Woody. The bass is prominent in the mix. I'll encourage you to watch it again... and make sure you see his bass solo!

I have a lot of those kindsa songs in my collection too. I think it's important to hold on to those. They were among the first seeds to be planted, that made you who you are today!

LOG neck... not long neck. From what I've seen & heard, those old Hamers frequently had large, thick, rounded necks...
Ah! Wide at the nut 1.75 like a 60's P bass but a very Gibson like profile in general. The wide nut for me I can work around but if it was 1.5 I would dig it even more.

My 1982 Blitz has a smaller neck than my black FBIV. The burst FB has a very similar neck to the Blitz, but different profile. The Blitz has a more comfortable neck IMO. The black FB and the Cruise havve the same size neck. Between 82 and 86 the neck and headstock shapes/sizes changed at Hamer.

1980's Hamer Blitz Bass White Sparkle
There are a few pieces on eBay that might catch your interest too!

I think that one is overpriced based on that headstock repair.

I have to be honest & say that I've always chuckled at Explorers and the likes, because coming up through the '80s, they were just so "metal". I'm old enough now to realize that, hey... if they have the sound & feel... who gives a crap? As I've said before... if you found the right neck, you could jam it into a rotting corpse, run a cord to it & I'd play it!

Crap! I didn't look at it close up. I saw the pic & the price, then posted it...
