Thunderbird Club

My only real complaint about my new 'bird, is the lack of sustain. Is it safe to assume that your bridge would help with that?
It does increase sustain! Greater string break angle across the saddles.

See!, and I'll bet this album dont run regular rotation through your collection either. But it has significance. People who know me personally would never expect me to play Jefferson Starship - Miracles or Gerry Rafferty's - Baker Street but guess what? I love those tunes and they are entrenched deeply within me from early childhood. Favorites of all time.
Exactly! Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemagne", and the Doobie Brothers "What a Fool Believes" take me back to the 4th of July at my Grandmother's house in northern Michigan. Pretty much the whole "Glass Houses" album from Billy Joel, takes me back to when my brother & I were kids. We had this metal box that came with a "travel" version of Chinese Checkers. We took all the game stuff out of it, dug a hole behind some trees next to the house, and buried that box with a couple little AM radios in it. When we thought we could get away with it... we would sneak out, dig up the box, and listen to "the devils music" until we thought somebody was coming. Then we'd scramble to throw the radios back in the box & bury 'em like we were trying to hide a body!

Steely Dan and Billy Joel were "the devil's music"?!

Maybe my Mom's reaction to the pic of Slade on "Slayed" was not so bad after all :roflmao:

Yes... it's true. Hell... Pat Boone barely squeaked through "the devil filter" by the skin of his teeth!

I'm SSSOOOOOO glad that my Father never saw Kiss's video for "I Love It Loud"! I woulda wound up in a Christian Military school for sher!!!

I remember feeling "uneasy" as I stared at Dio's "Holy Diver" album cover, worried that I might be holding a one-way ticket to hell in my hands! When Slayer's "Reign in Blood" came along... i was fairly certain that I was! the "fear of God" is a funny thing for your parents to instill. Without it... I wouldn't have experienced the thrill or excitement that those records held. I couldn't put 'em down! (I'm pretty sure that's not what my folks had intended...)

My 1982 Blitz has a smaller neck than my black FBIV. The burst FB has a very similar neck to the Blitz, but different profile. The Blitz has a more comfortable neck IMO. The black FB and the Cruise havve the same size neck. Between 82 and 86 the neck and headstock shapes/sizes changed at Hamer.

I think that one is overpriced based on that headstock repair.
i don't know your feelings on FSOs, but this appears to be a very fine example...

Nah man... If you ever get to hear Victor Wooten speak, about anything really... you'll quickly understand his Yin Yang thang. Also... I've passed on a thousand Epiphones over the years because they were made in China (and beyond). Now, thanks to you guys, I own one... and now wonder what I might have missed out on before.

Regarding the video... you can definitely blame your iPad for the lack of bass. That clip is from Gov't Mule's "The Deepest End", which is a celebration of the low end, in honor of the then recently departed Allen Woody. The bass is prominent in the mix. I'll encourage you to watch it again... and make sure you see his bass solo!

Talking about Allen Woody. There's a B-Stock Rumble Kat at thomann. Worth it for 360€(380 or something $)? Love the looks and so I get something different, which is not an FSO.

Usually they're pretty good at the sustain department. Any setup issues?

My grandmother thought Elvis was the devil, while she was actually in the right age group. Goes to show..

Some of you guys drum, right?

We kicked out our drummer and it started to become some weird on/off relationship afterwards. So we decided we'll record the album(s) ourselves, but we need to get a kit. Any tips for a 700-1000§ kit including hardware? We were eyeing a Yamaha Rydeen first, but I read reviews that it ain't that great.

I would own that version of the Cruise for sure. They are supposed to be really something with the 2 Tek bridges. But mine is more the original style (minus the pickguard usually installed back then).

Hi All: Lost our rhythm guitarist and need some power trio alternative rock suggestion. Any recommendations? Please no GRN Day or Blink 182. THX

Wait a sec...
If I may throw this out: Loyalty to your remaining guitarist aside, have you considered the...DUO route?
MAN, we could use another Death From Above 1979! I'm seriously considering it myself.

I didn't even know they brought the Rydeen set back. Cool!! I have an older set that I like. I upgraded the hardware and cymbals only because I bought the set used and the originals were trashed. You'll read good and bad reviews about anything.

Coming across the Strait of Juan de Fuca in the morning to see Pt. Angeles, I do hope it's sunny there.
I strongly recommend that you take one of several other ferries back into Seattle, don't come down the Kitsap Peninsula and thru Tacoma, the traffic will kill you.
Taking the Kingston ferry in about fifteen minutes. I'm kinda beat, but our great international tour was a raging success!

That's true. I think the other contender will be a Pearl Export. Also guitarist saw a DDrum Hybrid, never heard of them, but he gravitates towards it. Found a Ludwig Accent, but I don't know if it's any good.

Regarding the Allen Woody... I was going to ask the folks here for their reviews on that bass also. I've wanted one since long before I ever became a bass player!

Regarding sustain/setups issues... yes... there are some. I bought it used online, sight unseen. Cosmetically, it could pass for NOS, but it had some bad juju in it, that I believe came from sitting in a stand being neglected for a long time. The nut's gonna hafta be replaced, and I had to find a work-around for a little hiccup between the 12th fret and the neck/body joint. I'm pretty pleased with how good I got it, but it can be, and will be better. It's actually improved (or seems like it anyway) just by being played. I have the opportunity to make it better, and support one of our bass brothers. I'd be a fool to pass that up!

Regarding Elvis... I think he got a free pass through the devil filter, cuz my Mom liked him!

Regarding drums/drumming... I actively played drums for 15 years. I only got away from it because of the usual job/family stuff, and because of a back injury. Pearl Export series have always been a better drum set than anything else in that price range. Stout, versitile hardware... consistent tone & volume, good finishes... ya just can't go wrong. However... my brand was always Ludwig. I didn't care for their hardware, but they just looked, sounded, and felt how I wanted drums to look, feel, and sound. Also, Gretch has some new stuff on the market that is attainable in your price range. I haven't checked them out, but based on what I know of Gretches from the past... I have to encourage you to check them out. My suggestion would be, to sit down behind a Pearl Export kit & get a feel for it, then go directly to one of those new Gretch kits and compare. Historically, Gretch were pretty snobby about what they would put out there with their name on it. Those could be a big winner. Be certain to pay attention to all hardware & pedals. Go with yer gut. If at any point, a question crosses your mind regarding the quality or durability of any part of the hardware. Move on. Drums live a hard life. If something makes you wonder if the hardware will fail, you should assume that it will! With regards to cymbals... I played Sabian for a lotta years. They're the only brand I've never broken! They're typically very bright with tons of attack/definition to cut through the mix. When I was older, I moved to Paiste (pronounced Pie-stee). To me, they simply sounded the best (John Bonham used to take baths with his Paistes!). Over the years, cymbal manufacturers have played around with various alloys & stuff, so you're gonna have to read user reviews & so forth to see what people are saying, but at least now you have a starting point. I'll also encourage you to check out Pro-mark sticks. Specifically the white oak ones. I played hard... really hard... and I could wear those things down to nuthin' before they'd break!

GC is running a big sale for the 4th of July, and they carry everything I just mentioned.

I hope this helps!
