In the Lighting Fixture industry this sort of thing is rampant, if one mfg. comes up with something you can be assured that about 10 others will be copying it within 9-12 months.

It's a fashion industry, gotta get in and get out. Design something, ship 200 containers and move on. Somebody will be doing it cheaper before it's time for a reorder.

Only heard the news just now on this thread, can't believe it, just covered one of his songs not long ago. Another great inspiration lost like so many others before him in recent history. He will definitely be missed.

This is one of the reasons I decided not to pursue designing and making furniture. 200 pieces was beyond my capacity, let alone 200 containers, but the same thing applies.

I hated to hear this. I always liked his music. Even as a metal teenager I really enjoyed his music. RIP Tom.

You are one year younger than I am. I guess we are embarking on the slow trip out of existence. I don't mind, personally, but it's tough to see others go, as strange as that sounds. There's one constant we can rely on. Carlo will still be here, will still be irrascible, will still be older than dirt, and will still be making outstanding bass guitars. All else is transitory.

I'm 56. I started playing bass the year he made the scene.

"Listen to Her Heart" was the second song I ever played with a band... ANY band... ever. I was 16 years old, and hanging out at a friend's house checking out his band's practice. The drummer was late, & they asked me if I wanted to jam. I didn't even know the song at the time, but they assured me I would be fine. It was perhaps the best example of nervous excitement in my life (not including when I became a father). The guitar player in that band would wind up being, and still is my best friend. He did, and still does the best Tom Petty impersonation I've ever heard. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was always very special to us. Always will be.
