SM465, the wear plating came of the shift fork and the 1-2 slider machined the fork...

Of course we found this issue on the first hard pull on a trail in Moab...

You might just have a bit more horsepower than I have. Hence, I grenade the motor, not the tranny. Finding a piece of the ring embedded in the top of the next piston over had me scratching my head. That block was beyond boring out. It was fun until things started ventilating the pan.

Well... the 5 wheeled ones take up too much space, and it's hard to get a picture of the 3 wheeled ones before they get wrecked...

That's why I generally stick to two these days.

Well I put two higher output 'bridge' pups in the Epi ... and @veebass did the same with at least one of his basses. Maybe it's a yobbo Ocker thing?

I bought the higher out put Chinabuckers for my Gibson TBird (I think nominally 9.2K). Put the slightly higher output of those in the bridge and the slightly lower one neck/ amidship. Sounds great IMO. I run them both full.

Had a good afternoon yesterday at the Sydney GTG of the OzBass Forum.
Caught up with @veebass and and a look see at a variety of Basses. I liked them all which probably doesn’t help me going forward.

Not in any order:
Ibanez Artcore 32”
Gibson OS Les Paul
Gibson DoubleCut Les Paul
Fender MIJ Musicmaster 30”
A homebuilt ‘tribute to Sting’ bass 32”
2015 Rickenbacker 4003S JetGlo

I chickened out of playing (touching!) the beautiful Wal.

There were also Vintage P Basses, Stingrays, Peaveys, Sandbergs etc there plus many self built basses.

Played through a little markbass, a TCE amp with Hartke HD 112, and an Eden amp with Eden 410.

Good day mixing with good people and seeing good gear; and my oh my, some of these guys can play.

Yes, it was a great day. Lovely to catch up again.
That 32 inch P Bass was a beast- it had some EMG pickup in it that was tapped and series/ parallel switched.
Some of those guys can indeed play.

That 32 inch P Bass was a beast- it had some EMG pickup in it that was tapped and series/ parallel switched.
Some of those guys can indeed play.

All but one of the basses I tried I could be really happy with, and it was nice also.

I was surprised that I tried 30” 32” 33.25” & 34” scale basses and didn’t have any discomfort becoming quickly accustomed to any of them.

That ‘Sting’ build / Franken of Paul’s was a real Thumpin’Stick wasn’t it. Loved it. It and the Artcore were my first (known) experience of flats.

I’ve been half heartedly been trying to teach myself to use a pick. The Sting and the Rickenbacker just ‘called me’ to try the pick, and wow! They loved it!

The only ‘Bird sighting for me was Pete’s home build Funderbird (?) ; I tried it last year and was really impressed. 3 pickups, one knob (vol I guess) and 4 little switches... can’t remember now what they were for. Pickup on/off x 3 and an on/off I guess. Having said that they could be anything.

I need to win the trifecta tomorrow

Yes Pete's three pickup home made bird is very good. Volume, three kill switches and a series/ parallel switch.

That sounds like a good setup for a 3-pickup bass. Three individual switches always seemed like the best solution for pickup switching with three pickups so as to get all possible combinations and be able to solo each individual one. The series/parallel switch is a great idea on top of that.

It does look huge, but gee it looks great as a goldtop. Not that heavy either.
