My recollection of TB rules and policy is that it's forbidden to post a negative comment about another persons bass, but for the life of me I can't find anything official on TB in writing specifically calling that out as an infraction. There's a blurb about being courteous and polite but nothing that specifically says you can't post an opinion about your dislike of a certain bass model or feature.
I'm not a moderator, but IMHO I have yet to see anything on this thread that even comes close to an insult infraction. Sure folks here (and the rest of TB as well) have opinions about specific brands or models or features or colors or as a standing inside joke in this club even pickguard material and FSOs. Opinions are just that, not fact, not the final word, just one persons opinion - differing opinions always exist and can be voiced as well. The key is to remember to be polite when voicing an opinion and not call out any person or group as wrong for differing with your opinion, their point is as valid as yours.
Fix - no harm, no foul. I for one enjoy seeing others opinions on different gear, and the colorful pictures you paint with your opinions are always entertaining if not insightful. Rock on.

Toilet seat shaped pickguards - not cool. Tort - not cool. Fender - not cool.......
Tell ya what is cool.... I got an Ibanez Destroyer last week. Didn't have THE tone! (Didn't have any tone. The sound of limp lettuce - stock.) Put a set of EMG GZR P/J in it. Now we're cooking! Houston, we have TONE! Cool!!!!!

I think the rules are more like guidelines in communicating between members. I recall said rule is not to call a member’s bass ugly, in which in this instance Fix didn’t...
I always thought Robert Trujillo was the bass player of Suicidal Tendencies...
Speaking of bass bashing...I have a custom made (for me, no less) Drake 35" scale bass with TV Jones blade pickups. It's a beast! Plays great, sounds great but our initial drawings of the bass were much cooler to me than how it actually came out. I commissioned TB'r @JIO to do a makeover based on his Teisco inspired custom designs. Since we didn't want to completely cover all of Andrew Drakes amazing work, Jio did a distressed kinda thing. Some folks loved it, but some folks were deeply and even comically offended. One dude described it as something like, taking a beautiful bass, then dragging it behind a speeding truck for miles
Not that I totally care, because I love the bass.

It doesn't bother me a bit if someone doesn't like it because I love it, but some people seemed deeply offended. It's just a bass, man!

Saw a picture of it in another thread, and my instant reaction was that it looked quite a lot like one of JIO’s Teisco basses... Now I know why...

Well... if I'm going to be put in a position where I have to defend or explain my words... I'll do it... but under protest. There was no incendiary intent. I didn't go to the EBMM club and leave the comment. It is a regular occurrence around here to poke fun at certain models, and even those who play those models (a mark I am careful to stay shy of). I've watched remarks far more abrasive, personal, and insulting than mine, get laughed away & ignored. Yet... here I am
Clearly... as PillO stated... virtually the entire paragraph was obviously hyperbole. It is not, however, hyperbole when I say that I find the design so off-putting, that I sincerely cannot imagine anyone finding it attractive or desirable on any level. This, like so many other similar comments made thousands of times daily throughout these forums... is an opinion. One you can freely chose to agree with, disagree with, or ignore entirely.
This reactionary hyper-sensitivity is ridiculous, and needs to stop.

I constantly hear rave reviews about the Geezer pups! From all reports they seem to be the secret sauce to tonal bliss. I have a Squier (Sqwar as @kat888 calls them) Jazz bass that I might drop a set into to see if it will leapfrog my hotrodded Fender American Deluxe Jazz at a fraction of the price.
Disclaimer - neither of the authentic Fender objects listed above have Tort guards. One has mint the other has black pearl. Unfortunately both have mother of toilet seat neck inlays (maybe donated from a Bongo bass, who knows).

That's a bass that's got me curious.... I mean, the short scale Jag. I seem to spend as much time playing a short scale Epi Allen Woody, as anything else these days.... Short scale Jag or Guild/D'Armond Jetstar, both on my wish list. LOL. Does the Jag come with a metallic purple option? Or still just the black? And that's the Squier isn't it? There isn't a short-scale Jag option with the "F" word on the headstock?

Excellent! I've never been a fan of how the Ibanez basses sound. Just not my thing. EMG's are, though. Glad you got what you wanted out of it. Those vintage instruments are superbly made for the most part.

I thought I had corrected it before anyone noticed... I am used to being made to feel stupid... But, it is not so much spelling error as motor memory error.

I really want a Bongo, in an especially garish color. There's two reasons for this: 1). they play and sound amazing. B], people freak out over how they look. I'm a 6'6" grey haired beast often compared to a silverback gorilla. They're gonna be looking at me onstage whether I want them to or not. Might as well make me happy and have them wondering "what the help is that thing?"
