My wife kinda notices if I play the Thunderbird or if I play the P. She's not all that interested in my noise making in a detailed way. She says she likes hearing it all the time. I understand that. When our son is home, he practices his trumpet all the time. If you have ever been around a trumpet player, you will know that trumpet practice drills are NOT what most people would consider music. We both like hearing those drills, because it's him.Sounds like you and @kat888 are married to the same guy!
On the other hand, my wife notices everything. Right down to string changes. The other day she popped into the bass room while I was practicing and said, "didn't that one have blue silks before". She was right, I had changed up to Rotos with red silks. Can't get a thing past her. I don't even attempt to sneak a new bass into the house. Fortunately she's very supportive of my bass habits (probably because my other habits are a lot more expensive).
When it comes to N+1, she's fairly unenthusiastic, but also not absolutely forbidding. I don't abuse her lack of interest in details (too much). She knows I get all kinds of odd parts and pieces to try out this and that to see if it works. It's a fairly cheap hobby compared to motorcycle racing, which she also put up with while I did it.
