Thunderbird Club

It's always cool when your spouse gets into and is supportive of your interests. Sounds like she's partial to P basses. You'll have to float some Alleva Coppolo pics past her... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
once she sees the prices she'll ask you to buy more TBirds instead. ;)
YEEESH!!! I can only imagine what the price tag is like, but I can safely say without a doubt in my mind... that it's is entirely too much for an instrument with a headstock that looks like the silhouette of a fat guy schittin' out a huge bass:woot::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

The GCs here in the Austin area tend to be staffed by serious local musicians, so I don't see that sort of crap here. And there are enough awesome local stores that they have to do a really good job to thrive.
Ours are staffed by musicians, too, I think. You can tell because they all call you Man, Dude, or Bro.

Dang it! Now you've gone and ruined it for me, I'll never be able to look at those basses again without that mental image popping into my head.

I unwittingly did that to my wife one time. She was all set on this (very expensive non knock off) Louis Vuitton purse. We went down to Rodeo Drive to check it out and the first thing I said (which was a sincere and honest opinion that just popped out of my mouth before I could engage my brain) - "it looks like a bowling ball bag". That was it, she was dumbfounded and just stood there looking at it and thinking OMG he's right. Needless to say, she didn't buy it. So I took her over to Tiffanys and bought her some nice jewelry instead (she came out ahead and was still talking to me afterwards). Disaster averted.

Nah, racing is perfectly safe. Really. I fell off a bunch of times and only broke a fingernail. Falling off at high speeds means you slide a long, long way. It gets really warm when you are sliding down the asphalt, wondering what parts of the bike you are going to have to fix this time.

Turns out I was pretty fast... when it was snowing. We do stuff like that up here. Nope, not a dirt bike - full on 600cc sportbike racing on asphalt. During a snow squall. I never claimed to be a genius.
This belongs to a friend of mine. When he told me about how rare they are, I had to snap a pic to show you...

When I bought my first Daytona 675, it was a bit of a tossup about whether I would wait for KTM to start selling those or whether Triumph would get the smaller triple to market first. Triumph beat KTM by a year or two, and I ended up replacing the Triumph 600 I had flogged mercilessly with a Daytona. There's a big difference between a 675 triple and a liter V-twin, of course. But, both are narrow and light, and that's what I like. I never got a chance to ride an RC-8, but a few of my friends had them over the years. There was a guy who raced one for a while, too. They are beasts.

The biggest rocket I've been on was a 750... and that was PLENTY thank you very much! There is nothing like scrapin' a peg flyin' through S turns at 100+, but I'm more of a Heritage Softail kinda guy these days. My powers of invincibility expired a number of years ago...

The Tbird arrived today. I love these, get 'em from a really nice & talented guy in Great Britain ("airmale320" on eBay OR Hotwire Crafts at active8studios.co.uk) I bought all 3 from his eBay shop over the past year.
Tbird plus my Ibanez Talman & SRX2EX1. He didn't have any of these 3 models on his normal stock list, but I sent him pics and he did custom for same price.

Well, guess i'm the minority here on the Jazz bass, just got mine out of the shop. Seymour Duncan Apollos, stack knob harness, grind and polish on the frets.
It's not a 'quacker" anymore. Probably the best Jazz bass i've ever owned now. I think i've said to much, no body armour or flight to some unknown destination can protect me now.

I love Jazz basses. They just don’t seem to love me :)

I like some Jazz basses, particularly the five I own. I don't like the one that Giddy Lou plays. It has too many notes and a high pitched squeal seems to emanate from its vicinity.

Ha! Right there with you

Does Lynyrd Skynyrd count as classic rock? Their first big tour with the Who was when I first decided that I wanted a Thunderbird. Leon played the crap out of that and it sounded awesome. (I don't recall if that was all he played that night, but he definitely played it.)

John Entwhistle (the Who), Gene Simmons (Kiss), and Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith) also used Tbirds for some biggies in the 70s.

Granted they were all Gibsons, but the tone isn't *that* different.

Interestingly, John Entwhistle was playing Thunderbirds on the Quadrophenia tour that Skynyrd opened for. So both bands were Thunderbird-intensive that night!

Which night? 1973-Nov-27; Atlanta, GA; The Omni. We had cheap seats but moved in fairly close. We had to move a couple of times when seat holders showed up, but eventually settled for the duration- still up close.

Leon was amazing!
