Thunderbird Club

Took the ‘02 to a rehearsal tonight. Sounded great with that trio. The drummer really listens and comments on the gear I bring each week. He said he preferred my ‘02 to my ‘14 with them, but thought my ‘14 worked better for my Derek Hoke gigs than the ‘02. He also much prefers the Mesa D800 with them over the Traynor. Sadly, I agree with him 100%
A drummer with ears! I stop listening when playing drums. Just because.

Actually, I hear all kinds of things all the time, even playing drums. In the band I play drums, the current bass player has a P, and I think it would be better if he had a 'Bird. But, he's a 7ender or Ibanez player. All bets are off when he moves to Canada. My brother is a J player. Might have to do something about that.

I had the '01 out at a rehearsal last night. It has new Black Beauties on it, which worried me a little. I didn't want to mess with the pixie dust. The pixie dust is all still there. The '01 is just different somehow. The neck is a little rounder, the sustain is just a little stronger, the sound is just a little more flexible somehow. It doesn't have the immense versatility of the '15, because it's not coil tapped, but it can go from a warm dark maroon sound to a ferocious teal with electric blue edges, just with touch and tone knob. It seems like Gibson had some kind of box of magic that escaped into the 'Bird production line around 2000 and lasted for two or three years.

Hmmm.. interesting. I assumed they somehow blocked out the original before putting the sticker on otherwise scammers could just peel the sticker off and sell without the stigma of a "2nd." Might check on this because now that you mentioned it my fingers will be itching to lift that sticker just a little bit to satisfy my curiosity. ;)
My Pro IV was a factory second. Beats me why. I got it second hand, and sometime in its past, somebody had removed the sticker. The serial under that sticker had the first few numbers obliterated. The remainder had not. Plus, there was USED stamped into the headstock up near the top. I don't know if they still do anything like that.

Just Bought an Epi Thunderbird Vintage PRO no Camera right now have to go get one so I can post Pictures.

Very nice, I'll expect some pictures from you very soon.............#700 could be yours. Hmmmmmm................. now, about that initiation :roflmao:

I can see several possible reasons.
1. They don't see the point when they have nothing new. They own a big chunk of the market. They're safe, so why spend the money.
2. They own a big chunk of the market and have gotten smug. They think they are safe, and will eventually get a reality slap.
3. Someone is petulant and got their panties in a wad over something. Taking their cue from recent political figures, they took their ball and bat and said "@#$% you!" to NAMM. And the public at large.
Time will tell.

I just can’t...

I swear, you foreigners have been screwing up the American language for years

:)
See... what I find funny here, is that you live in the American South. You're surrounded by people who say the exact same thing everyday... they just do it with a twang! You will not convince me that, in Nashville, TN USA... you've never heard someone say, "Gawn, give'r a shot", or some such a thing! Hell... I think it's genius! In my phonetic dictionary...I never could come up with a good version of "go on". The only thing I could come up with was "go'on", which looks like a typo of "goon". Frankly... had it occurred to me to turn it into a single syllable word, I probly woulda been using it years ago! Barring any opposition from our international contingencies... you'll likely see it turning up in my posts around here!:D

A few pages back someone asked for a demo of The Chain bass solo. I am not much of a camera man but I hope this helps.

Sounds great and nicely played! Thanks Scott.

What gauge did you order?

That was horrible and I skipped through 90% of it... wow, he hasn't a clue has he?

He’s an interesting fellow :)

On the Cobalt flats I can’t remember the exact guage, but the E string is a 105

RIP Fast Eddie Clarke. Last of the original Motorhead.

That’s really sad :/

WRT embellishment, I can see after (or later) doing some sort of jam where you go a little crazy off of that. But the bit itself at that point in the song? I agree. Too iconic. That would be like going all Yngwie on guitar in the transition right after the soft parts of Stairway to Heaven- barbaric.

Damn Scott! That would be a great demo clip for the VP! REALLY nice tone!:thumbsup:

I agree with your decision not to "flower up" that bass line. It's a signature thing that really pulls a lotta weight in the song. As a listener... I would be put off, and somewhat disappointed by a Billy Sheehan-esque interpretation...

We jam out at the end and I have my fun.
