Thunderbird Club

Quite beautiful, Michael and I love the setting. How many hectares?

You're both right!

I'm sure Michael's bride will be thrilled.

Ehem

The surrounding fields don't belong to the house, but the neighbouring farmers.

Actually the whole lot is only 971 m2 (0.0971 ha), and quite a bit smaller than what my girlfriend wanted - But the house, it's renovated interior, the size, the settings, the pool and the fact it was affordable for us and within a 30-45 minute drive from work made it perfect for us.

It is 224 m2 (2411 ft2) and has an addiional 50 m2 (538 ft2) heated utility room/garage that can be converted to a studio/rehearsal space as a bonus, which really sold it to me.

A master bedroom (upstairs) and 3 guestrooms (ground), big open space kitchen (ground), dining area and small living room (ground), two bathrooms and the biggest living room I've ever seen upstairs at 100 m2 (1076 ft2) - All in a fairly good condition, so we can move right in.

Seems that there are plenty of us here with experience with Thunderbuckers, Lull's and Lollars, don't hear much about the SD's.

Well maybe I should try the SD's? since I've always been impressed with Seymour's work. Heck, those other 'big 3' you mentioned were probably inspired by Seymour, when they first started out?

Speaking of smoothing things out- re; string talk. I'm not a big fan of rounds after having become hip to TI flats many years ago, as they quickly became my favs. But I still dabble with rounds every now and then, and one set that I'm super impressed with are the Fodera nickles. They are smooth & supple on the fingers and the frets, kinda like the TI's are, but they retain more of that 'piano tone' than the TI's. And I'm just wondering if anyone here, has used them on their 'Bird? because I'm thinking of running a set on the Epi VP. Even though the Fodera's are not too spendy, I still don't like to use a fresh set on a test. As I don't have any used sets laying around, since they seem to last & last kinda like the TI's in that regard. Anyone?

Very nice!!

Sometimes it’s better to have a smaller property surrounded by other people’s open land. Costs less, and less work you have to do, and still keep the view!

Exactly!

We've been viewing other properties which had way way too much land and additional buildings like barns and storage buildings, but that was just too much for us - Eventhough we wouldn't use those building they would either need maintaining or to be demolished, which made it way too expensive in the long run.

So... Here is the reason for me having been terribly behind these pages for a while...

If all goes according to plans, I'll be swapping my 5 room apartment in Copenhagen for this on the countryside in a few month time:

Is that a thatched roof?

Well, guess I'm kinda on a T-Bird barrel roll. Not only was I fortunate enough to pick up that Alpine White Epi VP here, but I also recently picked up this 2006 Gib:
Anyone know if the 'California Girl' style case was still original issue in '06?

Not sure when they still offered those cases - I bought one from Guitar Center for $50 in the late nineties - I had to ask again the price as even then it was a steal. Mine has the fuchsia satin cover sheet. Don't know any girls around here that that case makes me think of.., a funeral perhaps.

Congrats!! Gibson was all over the place with the color of the cases for a while. Brown/Pink, Black/White, Black/Black but not sure what years they used what color.
Then there's the added cover they put in cases off and on. The 1991 is brown/pink with a plush sheet. The 2001 is brown/pink with a pink satin sheet. The 2015 is brown/pink with no sheet. The EB is a 2013, and its case is black/white with no sheet. I would be surprised if 'Birds from 2013 and 2014 had brown/pink cases. But who knows. It's just one more of those mysterious internal workings of Gibson things. They are a little like British manufacturers from the 1960s and 1970s. Whatever parts happened to be around got used. Never mind what was specified.

If you go the Fodera nickel route with your VP I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts on them. I'm still looking for the best string on the VP. I've used TI Jazz flats on some of my other basses with good results but hadn't really thought of using them on the VP. Keep us posted.

Hey guys. Nice club you have here.

Several weeks ago I became very interested in Thunderbird. So much that I am ready to sell my Fender JB, ahaha. I live in Russia, so there are a lot of copies from Japan, Korea and China and relatively rare true Gibson.
Could you tell me are Greco and Epiphone are good enough? Do their sound and convenience of playing have resemblance to Gibson? Maybe better (bass god, forgive me) ? What models should I pay attention to? Any other brand suggestion?
I love my Gibson Thunderbirds, but I also suspect that a Greco or Epiphone Vintage Pro would be just as good, if not better in some ways.

That's another experiment that I don't know that any of us has done yet. I like Cobalt Flats for the round-like piano tone only with flatwound strings. I have DRs on the 2015, and it was sounding a little dead last night. So, time for more string experiments.
