I'm very pleased with the stock pups, and have no intention of swapping them. Honestly... I'll encourage you to take some time & get to know it before you start throwing money at it. You might save yourself some dough;)

I don't think you will see production move out of China. The Japanese were ahead of the curve moving production to Korea, then Indonesia, and finally China. However, the Japanese typically have higher quality standards, so expect QA/QC to change for the better.

Sorry, I just read. It came up. Don't really follow new Ampegs.
They already have QC problems. No matter what your standards are. Bob Gallien started out in Campbell, thought he would have better margins in China and now's in Petaluma. Probably because he could not afford the old building he vacated in Campbell.

I dunno if they'd go that far. I'd like to see some Yammy manufacturing expertise employed in that division, though. The way China does it is to build to the customer specs. If they spec crap, that's what they'll make. If its world class, then that' what the Chinese will do. They are basically a nation of jobber shops and they're great at it. If Yammy can't get what they want out of China (unlikely) then a move to Japan would prolly happen. It's gonna be a while before we know that, though.

A few years ago when I joined, I started with page 1, post 1 and read them all until I was current. That took a very long time. Having read every post in the club to this point, I'm too stubborn to give that up now. I think that means I'm stupid rather than committed.

Petaluma Isn't cheap either. Dude needs to move south of Nashville.

Yamaha already builds their wooden box speaker enclosures here in the states, Georgia to be precise. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ampeg boxes come from the same place eventually.

I would not say they build to customer spec consistently. I spent many weeks at a time in Shenzhen at the Foxconn (yes suicide nets and all) and Pegatron facilities in support of the Apple i6 builds and let me tell you, customer specs are not really the priority..
