If you're looking for a really sweet sounding AE bass look no further than La Bella Black Tapewounds. It's probably about as close as you can get to an upright sound with a strap-on fretted bass. If you get the regular gauge set the strings will likely be too big for the nut grooves as well as the bridge peg holes. Go with a light gauge set and they should fit without modification.
