Thunderbird Club

Once again the Aussies have it almost right.

A Fender is the sheet metal surround that arches over the front or rear wheels. The bumper is on the front and rear ends of the car (and is used to take out occasional Roos that wander into the roadway). The quarter panels are typically the sheetmetal skirting under the doors that connects the front and rear fenders. The A pillar is typically the front windshield post and is followed by the B pillar which is the post that separates the front and rear side windows (not all cars have a B pillar between windows). The rear quarter panel is the sheetmetal behind the rear side window and connects the top of the rear fender to the roofline. Then there's the hood (or bonnet or frunk) in the front of the car and the trunk (or boot or lid) in the rear. Hatch back cars have a rear hatch, SUVs have a liftgate and trucks have a tailgate in the back vs a boot or trunk.

This concludes Automotive design 101 class. There will be a quiz on basic engine types and layouts tomorrow.
Another example of the vast range of knowledge freely dispersed in this club!
Those are the terms we use around here, but I always enjoyed reading the English versions of the car manuals where they refer to wings, boots, windscreens and spanners.

Never been much interested in cars per se, but I'm always interested in learning.

A bumper is the British English name for a fender on a car so a Fender is P basses were used as paddles in the opening sequence of the old cop show Hawaii 5-0
I know, I'm just being daft :) I'm taking medication for it but the doctor doesn't hold out any hope of a cure!

And I thought I was the only one who couldn't be helped.
I'll see if Bellevue will keep us in the same ward, but my guess is, they're going to keep us in the same room.
