Sorry about the pics, not only am I not a very stationary person but my phone is less than high quality.
As for the wires, they're all low enough to not make contact as of now, so I'm guessing they're moving a tiny bit when the bass is moving and possibly touching the cover.

It just occurred to me... if everything is as it should be inside your control cavity, nothing should be making contact on the inside between the cover and the wiring/components. This means that any current built up (static or otherwise) shouldn't be able to pass through into your signal. I'll urge you to pull that cover plate & see if there's any evidence of scratching, arching, or any other such maladies, and carefully check to make sure all wires & components are snug, and a safe distance beneath the cover. While you're in there... it's a good idea to check all solder points as well (whether you are the original owner or not... sh!t happens).

But keep in mind, static does not need contact to travel. high static charges will arc.

Exactly, which is why I kind of like my sponge solution in retrospect; the static electricity can't make contact to begin with.
Plus having a sponge taped to the back of your instrument is a great conversation starter in any setting.

Yes, maybe I really shouldn't have asked as much of electronics is Greek to me. As long as it works and I have a good amp tech - it's probably best to just nod.

If you think that's a legit concern, some well placed tape, zip-ties, etc. can immobilize...

(one in Fremantle, and there is a monument to Bon in his Scottish birthplace Kirriemuir. Edit just googled and it is a statue also)

I have not heard of that problem before.That's a bit bizarre. I wonder if putting foil on the back of the cover would help with the problem, especially if you can connect it to ground, either with more foil or a ground wire.
